As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

What are we actually aiming for next season - a top 10 finish?
Seriously. At what age did they lobotomise you?
You know nothing about this player and yet you write him off before he has even kicked a ball? All the while talking up the extremely average Feo Feo as if he is the new Bergkamp? Not just posting for a reaction now, are you? You are getting closer and closer to a ban for WUMing, mate.
For those who do not about Giroud- the below comment might shed some light from a poster on teamtalk:
rellik (Manchester United): WOW!!! I watched a lot of French football last year generally due to my addictiveness to online betting so i like to watch games that i bet on and trust me this guy is a fantastic player. At the reported £14m he is a bargain and will definitely be a great player for Arsenal. He has a great touch, great shot, very powerful and acrobatic player and can hold the ball up, he also has good vision too as can be seen by the amount of assists he has provided whilst playing as a CF, he likes to drop off sometimes and make run ins to the box. If Arsenal can keep RVP then they will have a top 3 spot guaranteed next season. Many are saying about them having signed Podolski too but Podolski can play as a LW/LF so he will most likely be replacing Gervinho. Wilshere, Song in CM, Walcott and Podolski on the Wings and RVP and Giroud upfront playing off one another, now that is amazingly good.
I will still keep coming back to the same point I made last week - if rvp wanted us to show intent by making some quality signings then does it make sense that those signings are actually strikers ? I mean we all know that we needed a few quality signings anyway so it isnt as if these signings are wasted but imo these signings cannot be used to persuade rvp to stay especially as giroud would only be a back up to rvp if he stays and if giroud is as good as advertised then a back up role seems unlikely does it not ?
I think all this confirms the feeling that many of us have had for a while now that rvp is leaving and has told the club this. I believe that the club have agreed to this on condition that he stays silent for a while thus allowing the club to get in replacement(s) ahead of an announcement cos we all know that we will be screwed financially by every selling club after the announcement cos they will know of our desperate need to buy

I think you are spot on with this point. I think all parties involved know that RVP is off but they have come to an agreement that it will be done once we have replacements in. I've suspected that an agreement was done round about Christmas time and that's why they got their fingers out to get Podolski. There are Twitter rumours (yes, I know that's no accurate measurement of truth) that Arsenal are now openly listening to offers.

To be honest if he wants to go then let him - not much we can do. At least we have gone in for two quality players as his replacement. One good season and they think they are dogs bollox.
I can understand the signing of strikers making people think that RVP is off, but I wonder if Wenger is planning on having him play in the former Fabregas role or the deeper No. 10 role while playing off of Giroud. It could work.
this lad is a player, looking forward to welcoming him to the club, so is the mrs to be fair, she said herself the last frenchman we signed was an ugly

Even Reading are going to outspend us .
Giroud = £12m
Podolski = £10m

22-13 = 9.
going by my logic we have spent 9m more than Reading, assuming their proposed deal goes ahead. In any case we've outspent Man City, Liverpool, ManU, and scum already this transfer window

Yes of course. We relied far too heavily on one striker last year. It makes sense to get in some more goalscorers.
Also Podolski is not a Van Persie type player, he's an attacking winger really and will play there. Giroud will need time to settle. In many ways he could be being signed to replace RVP NEXT year if you get my drift.
I think people are making things fit. He may go, but us signing these players doesn't mean that he is going.
