Re: EURO 2012 KNOCKOUT ROUNDS
I think Messi pisses all over Ronaldo, a fair point made about Ronaldo moving clubs but I wouldnt go as far as to call Messi a fair weather player, the ball sticks to his feet rain, sleet, or snow. Ronaldo is a better freekick taker, might just be abel to nick a yard off Messi too, but Messi is certainly more creative, has a better touch, and with his cheeky chips probably just a better finisher too.IW8Goalmachine wrote:exactly my point. thank you MutleyMutleyGooner wrote:Ronaldo is better than Messi IMO, both are exceptional players but the ladyboy has proved himself at different clubs in different countries and has also done it at international level. Ronaldo is great in the air too. The complete footballer imo. But again, both special talents.North-Bank-1987 wrote:I think Messi pisses all over Ronaldo, a fair point made about Ronaldo moving clubs but I wouldnt go as far as to call Messi a fair weather player, the ball sticks to his feet rain, sleet, or snow. Christ, you do some read some rubbish on here sometimes. This must be how Babatune feels!
No, but seriously - Messi, a "fair weather" player, who doesn't fair well for the Argies?
You must not have seen him dominating the World Cup qualifiers or single handedly taking apart Brazil recently. Now, granted, it was only a friendly against Brazil and some of the South American teams a gash, but if we're talking about how he fairs for the Argies, he does alright
In fact, he fairs just as well for the Argies as Ronaldo does for the Portuguese (the stats are there - can't be arsed to link to them).
That isn't to knock Ronaldo, mind. He's an astonishing player. Easily one of the best I've ever seen in the flesh. I couldn't give a shit about his ego. He's one of the best footballers to have ever played the game - he's allowed to have a high opinion of himself! Messi, on the other hand (in my opinion) is truly a once in a lifetime talent. I've never seen anything like him.
And what's all this - 'yeah, but could he do it on a cold Tuesday at the Britannia Stadium?' bollocks? Firstly, think of something original to say (seriously, Google "Messi cold night Britannia Stadium" and you'll see what I mean). Secondly, when Messi hangs his boots up and looks at his Ballon d'Ors, Champions League and League Champions medals (World Cup medal too, perhaps - he's only 24!), do you really think he'll be thinking, "yeah, but only if I'd gone to Stoke on a cold Wednesday night and played the game of my life. Only then would I truly have proven myself"? Thirdly, why should Messi have to go to Stoke and play well to prove that he is better than (or on a par with, if you believe some of the posters on here) Ronaldo? It's not as if Ronaldo did anything when he went up there*+
*Apologies for awful music on that link. Nothing I could do about that.
+ Admittedly, that game was on a cold Friday afternoon. If it'd been on a cold Tuesday/Wednesday night, Ronaldo would have shit all over them - something Messi could only dream of doing

Agreed TS. I was going to tear that post apart, but I just couldn't give it the dignity to acknowledge it

Re: EURO 2012 KNOCKOUT ROUNDS
Messi plays in a sunny SPL surround by other unreal talents.
Ronaldo carried an almost average man Utd team to three titles.
You can mention messi's world player of the year awards but that's bollox. There is no way in hell he should of won it in 2010. sneijder won the treble and got to the world cup final that year and it was a crime he didn't win it. Messi won it on the back of a la liga.
My point about stoke is English referees let players away with a lot more than ref in Spain or the CL so he wouldn't be getting as much protection.
This argument could go on forever it's one groups opinion against another

Thats a very valid point. you only have to watch Cesc play ( and I do...) to see the number of fouls he gets, whereas stoke, bolton, balckburn just used to kick him to fcuk.IW8Goalmachine wrote: My point about stoke is English referees let players away with a lot more than ref in Spain or the CL so he wouldn't be getting as much protection.
I'd love Messi to come to England, but i heavily suspect that his time here would be dogged with niggling ankle and knee injuries, like Rosicky for example, due to the speed and physicality of our game.
O Overmars was the same, when he wasn't tearing past defences he was always nursing something. I think that's why he left us for Spain after the Double.

and now its 1-0

Re: EURO 2012 KNOCKOUT ROUNDS
Lahm is the best full back in the world bar none.
Re: EURO 2012 KNOCKOUT ROUNDS
I read some time ago that no player is fouled more often than Messi (top 5 leagues only I guess).. but let's go back to the Euro 'cause I think most people have made their mind up and won't change their oppinion anyway.

The pitch is a mess.
Greece are terrible! My prediction of them causing an upset ain't looking good
