Wenger: I could earn 10 times more if I left Arsenal but money is not my motivation.
The Gunners boss says his wage packet has never been the be-all and end-all during his career and reveals his disappointment over players which he has lost due to such matters.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has made it known that money has never been a motivation during his coaching career.
The Frenchman has been at the north London club for 16 years, and won widespread acclaim for the attacking football the Gunners have played during his tenure.
However, he has now revealed that he had numerous opportunities to earn a more lucrative wage elsewhere, but resisted a move because he valued the work at Arsenal.
"I could move to clubs for more than 10 times [the amount of money] but I didn't do it," he told De Telegraaf. "[I've had] 16 years at Arsenal and I stay here because of my philosophy and vision.
"Money is not my motivation and that's also the way for [Johan] Cruyff at Ajax and [Wim] Jansen at Feyenoord."

Hmmm, so why does he keep snaffling up shares in PSG if he's not interested in money.... sounds like a load of bollocks, how about working for nothing then????Top Londoner wrote:Wenger: I could earn 10 times more if I left Arsenal but money is not my motivation.

Re: Arsene Wenger points of view
It's been long overdue for him to go. I wonder whether we would have seen any title years under wenger if he had to put his own defence together when he arrived. Personally I think not. While he was able to introduce lesser known French players and make them work in midfield or up front, his idea of a defence is shit. He really is clueless about the art of defending and had he not inherited the back 5 plus Keown he wouldn't have been able to put together a title winning side. Just look at some of the utter shite over the years he has brought in. Time for a change.
Re: Arsene Wenger points of view
Defending himself and his obscene wages ? He obviously was told that baba has been checking out his finances
On a serious level, can those of you who are happy with his performance thus far this summer tell me if that contentment is contingent on rvp staying ? In other words will his departure cancel out the signings and led to a renewed anti wenger swing ?

Rvp staying is out of his control, it's how he reacts to it . If it happys early and the reaction is to buy a quality replacement and a DM & CB then id be happy.
If it's last minute and we're left with two noobs up front then no. I have also posted with the crowd who think a DM is vital to protect the back 5 - and not least to indicate that Song and Diaby lost years are behind us.
I'd like to see us moving forwards and finish 2nd this year

Re: Arsene Wenger points of view
I don't think it naturally follows that if RVP leaves then it's Wenger's fault.augie wrote: On a serious level, can those of you who are happy with his performance thus far this summer tell me if that contentment is contingent on rvp staying ? For me we need to strengthen from last year's squad and I will judge him at the start of the season on the work he has done. No point moaning before that.

Re: Arsene Wenger points of view
My question re wenger satisfaction wasn't trying to lay blame at his door if rvp does depart (although I do believe that he is largely culpable) but I am wondering if that satisfaction is based on these guys being brought in to supplement rvp rather than replace him - I don't believe I would be reading these comments praising wenger if rvp was already gone cos these signings are not, in my opinion, at a good enough level to make us contenders without rvp so the confidence level probably wouldn't even be as high as it was last season and it wasn't high then

I have said I will judge him on his dealings in the summer, at the end of the summer. For me there is no point in worrying about something that may or may not happen. I do think that the two signings (90 % Giroud) shows a change in his dealings and I do think it's a good sign. If RVP leaves and he is just left with these two as forward signings I would think they are and improvement on just RVP when you consider his injury problems. Personally if he does leave I would like us to further strengthen in this area and get rid of Cham, Park and Bendtner.

i'd say partly.augie wrote: but I am wondering if that satisfaction is based on these guys being brought in to supplement rvp rather than replace him - I don't believe I would be reading these comments praising wenger if rvp was already gone cos these signings are not, in my opinion, at a good enough level to make us contenders without rvp
the signing of two international forwards from France and Germany ( not 2nd/3rd class football nations) gives me a little bit of hope, whether RVP stays or not.
for the last two years we've been over reliant on RvP and his glass legs, to replace him with someone else we'd be over reliant on again doesn't make sense to me.
if Robin stays then great, if not then i'd hope we add another striker to be part of the three - perhaps Olly and Pod are a hedge ?
i dunno, but put together these two signings are very untypical Arsene let alone Arsenal.

I love it when fans say they know what the future holds when in reality they don't know
