what does it take to make people happy?
Re: what does it take to make people happy?
New experienced goalkeeper, defensive midfielder, attacking midfielder and an RVP contract extension would make me very happy indeed.
Re: what does it take to make people happy?
Experienced keeper, a decent left back that won't get injuried for 65% of the season, an actual defensive mid. Persie staying.
Playing the italian 442 at home games
yeah, that'd make me happy.

seriously? surprised to hear that,franksav63 wrote:Got to admit, so far I'm underwelmed
it's like a parallel universe this board,
every Gooner I talk to in the real world is delighted we've signed Podolski and Giroud...
Re: what does it take to make people happy?
For me the number 1 priority is signing a tough, physical and sometimes dirty bastard to play the defensive midfielder position
Yes that is a bigger priority for me than keeping rvp because in my eye's, no matter who plays up front or how many goals they score, it will still not be enough if we continue to ship goals at the other end
De Jong from citeeh or javi martinez would be my top options but others have suggested m'vila and I still havent seen enough to form an opinion one way or the other.
If we sort out the above issue then obviously the rvp situation would be my next priority although I feel that situation is already done and dusted and not for the better either
Thirdly I know that we badly badly need a keeper to challenge/back up chesney and I do share the concerns about sagna's leg breaks but for me the more important issue is ridding the club of the shite that is putting such a strain on our wage bill. It seems to be a universally accepted need but unlike HighburyJD I am not in the slighest bit confident that wenger will do the necessary - there are too many players that nobody else wants and the one's that are wanted by other clubs are over-valued by wenger which is ironic (not in a funny way either) given his refusal to spend market value prices himself

Is that a conditional delighted ? I mean will they be happy with those signings if/when rvp goes and no other striker is brought in ? I think most fans opinions on these signings, mine included, are on hold until they see how the rest of the transfer window pans out cos if they are brought in to replace rather than supplement rvp then I dont see the fans reactions being too positive
Re: what does it take to make people happy?
Right now my expectations are so low I couldn't care less who we sign or who we sell.
I'd settle for some motherfucking pride and backbone in the team before anything else.

Gibbs will be a top left back when he finally gets over his injury problems.RioGooner wrote:Experienced keeper, a decent left back that won't get injuried for 65% of the season, an actual defensive mid. Persie staying.

Selling Song would make me ecstatic.

Yep, "delighted" is very much conditional for me.augie wrote:highburyJD wrote:seriously? surprised to hear that,franksav63 wrote:Got to admit, so far I'm underwelmed

Sign Podolski & Giroud + keep RvP = bloody delighted!

Sign Podolski & Giroud + sell RvP and not bring in another striker = a little worried to be honest

It's a waiting game until the transfer window shuts... only then can we really judge the summer's work. And obviously, until I've seen plenty of Giroud and Podolski in an Arsenal shirt, I can't really comment on their quality. Fingers crossed they're as good as we all hope though.

Song is a defensive liability.
If he was kept then use him as backup to Rosicky behind the strikers.

I no longer trust him defensively because of his positioning, but he can play a decent pass.
Too often he tries the same over the top ball, but he has more to his repertoire than that.
If at the start of the season when Wilshere is injured and Rosicky might not be fit, and Ramsey may be on loan, and Coquelin may well deputise for Sagna; then Arteta and a new defensive midfielder in deep midfield with Song in front of them would not be a disaster.
But I would prefer to sell him.
Just want to add - Hope Wenger lets Steve Bould have a say in defensive coaching and he does not end up as a "yes man".
Re: what does it take to make people happy?
Santos can play left sided midfield or wing no problem ,if we cut out the deadwood and for me that includes selling ramsey ,sign a defensive midfielder,a left back and a utility man we are in good shape .
Luxury would be a cover right back ,a cover goalkeeper ,and a hard man who can pass and run in midfield !

Re: what does it take to make people happy?
Song as an AM would be a disaster! He lacks almost everything needed to succeed in that role, i.e. technique, craft, intelligence, movement, speed of thought, agility, turn of pace, first touch, shooting, dribbling, etc.QuartzGooner wrote:Yes.

Song is a plodder who can spot the odd lobbed pass when under no pressure and that's about it. If you hate him as a DM you'll want to kill him as a CAM.
