Re: Van Persie won't extend contract

Post by clockender1 »

'As announced earlier this year I had a meeting with the boss and Mr Gazidis after the season. This was a meeting about the club’s future strategy and their policy. Financial terms or a contract have not been discussed, since that is not my priority at all.

'I personally have had a great season but my goal has been to win trophies with the team and to bring the club back to its glory days.

'Out of my huge respect for Mr Wenger, the players and the fans I don’t want to go into any details, but unfortunately in this meeting it has again become clear to me that we in many aspects disagree on the way Arsenal FC should move forward.

'I’ve thought long and hard about it, but I have decided not to extend my contract. You guys, the fans, have of course the right to disagree with my view and decision and I will always respect your opinions.

'I love the club and the fans, no matter what happens. I have grown up and became a man during my time with Arsenal FC.
'Everybody at the club and the fans have always supported me over the years and I have always given my all (and more) on and off the pitch. I am very proud of being part of this fantastic club for the last eight years.

'As soon as Mr Gazidis is back from his two-week holiday in America further meetings will follow and I will update you if and when there are more developments.'
ummm. shouldn't gazidis have taken his holiday after RVP had made his decision ? :banghead:

I really hope this is RVP being smart and putting pressure on AW & The Board...

i'll miss him. I'm glad we got one amazing year from him.

Somebody just said David Dein would never have gone around letting so many key players' contracts run down to 1 year.

Whatever you think of the bloke and the glorified image some people have of him it's hard to disagree with it.

A club that only turns a profit by selling players, look at the accounts. We have some fucking idiots following our team...

This. How are we meant to prise top players away from big clubs when our captain and best player comes out with this?

My goodness that is heart wrenching :( You should tweet that to RVP...

Anyway, it seems very bizarre that RVP would "officially" tweet something like that. A bit unprofessional, to say the least, no matter how its worded. Leave the business behind the curtains.

If he is indeed going, thanks for the memories Robin, but a shame that you are passing an opportunity to become a heroic icon of the club. It's very rare that a player has a chance to basically live forever in the history books of a team, particularly a team whose fans have always treated their own in such fantastic form. Henry, Wright, Rocky... doesn't look like van Persie will be one of those names.

I can appreciate however that Robin scored ~30 goals last year and wasn't anywhere close to winning a major trophy. That has to frustrate you. But you know what else is frustrating? Investing money and time in a guy who has been injured season after season when you're trying to win those said trophies.

He should know more than anybody. Perhaps makes a bit of sense given that he fucked off over to Holland for some experimental treatment, presumably out of frustration at the lack of progress AFC's medical staff were making.

Ian McGarry ‏@garbosj
Van Persie will complete his move to #MCFC within two weeks. Fee of around £22m. Contract worth £225k per week already agreed. #AFC
I don't understand why there is such hate on Twitter for RVP at the moment. Yeah we have stood by him through all his injuries etc. But fair play to him that statement says exactly what the majority of fans want to and are doing. I hope Gazidis squirms reading that line about himself and Wenger. Twat.
