Some of the tennis he played was fantastic, really do worry about his mental fortitude going into the final though. He went to pieces at the start of the 3rd set and never really got back to the level of the first two sets, he won't be able to bully Federer into submission in the same way.

That said I reckon he's got a better chance against Federer than Djokovic.

he's got a better chance against federer, he cant play his usual tactics though gotta be more aggressive and his 2nd serve is too timid, federer will exploit. federer i thought played awesome today

I only hope that the crowd is extremely partisan. The difference the crowd's support makes can be crucial at times, Tsonga was buoyed on by the fact the crowd got quite behind him (despite obviously overall supporting Murray) when he was playing well. Federer is a crowd favourite though and I don't doubt the crowd will also give him a fantastic reception.

Murray is more than capable of beating Federer but I think this particular game might be too far. As I said I question Murray's mental resolve, I can see him being broken in his first service game and pissing the first set away and it's a huge uphill battle from there. You could see how inhibited he was by nerves after two unbelievable sets today. He was a little better offensively today I thought, I felt he struggled at the start against Ferrer because he was playing negative shots and just hoping that Ferrer would make an unforced error. Serve is crucial as well, he didn't let Tsonga have a look-in first two sets because he was making all his first serves, but his serve dwindled with his form and confidence and this put him under huge pressure.

i agree with you on the crowd but not a chance that they will be partisan against federer even the french crowd arent. i think the crowd on sunday could be 65-35. even today the crowd was pretty flat against tsonga, perhaps thats just a reflection on their thoughts towards murray who knows.

in the australian and especially the u.s open federer has got off to such a quick start, breaking early and going for his shots while murray plays the passive tactics, because it works against federer in masters tournaments best of 3 doesnt work in the slams. while murray has a winning record against federer 8-5 federer has won 5 of the last 7 and both times they met in slams fed won straight sets. they have only played against eachother once in past 2 years and fed won earlier in the year in dubai. i am speaking out my pocket as well but i just dont see murray being able to beat fed over best of 5, even more so if the roof is on. i think murray HAS to win the first set to even stand a chance in my opinion

I agree, if he loses the first I don't see him coming back. The positive thing about today was he started quickly, he's been sluggish in a few of his matches and he can't afford that on Sunday. Federer will be supremely confident given his great performance today and his and Murray's respective performance in grand slam finals.

I know Murray's not the most charismatic fella but how is his personality that bad so as to justify people supporting anybody over him? Interestingly it normally comes down to some of his tongue-in-cheek comments about the English rugby team, although people are normally unwilling to admit that and insist it's for some other vague reason.
