THE BOARD - Kroenke, Usmanov and Finance

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

A far better article than the crap written in the mail by that kelly wanker and it is no coincidence that it is written by a proper Gooner as opposed to some wanker who sticks his nose around the grove every so often as he tours the different football stadia each week
A bit harsh on DB10Gooner there Augie

Cockerill's chin wrote:PHW is a continuing embarrassment to the Arsenal. Some of his comments don't deserve detailed opinion. I am tired of the excuse of the oligarch clubs being used as a smokescreen to cover the fact that 17 other clubs in the PL invested more heavily in net transfers since 2005. If our high wage bill is an excuse for underinvesting in transfers then the mismanagement of the wage budget needs accountability but these guys are in a bubble. Edited highlights from the buffoon:
"we cannot pay that sort of money, and we can't compete"
"It's simple to say we should put some money in, but it doesn't make any sense"
"we haven't done badly; it's not as if we have been relegated"

I think this interview PHW gave a few years back sums the guy up:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMn2YS5e ... re=related
Wasn't it either PHW or Gazidis that stated just last season that it didn't matter whether or not we got into the CL? Not very clever to make that comment. :banghead: No telling what exactly was said between RVP, AW and Gazidis over RVP's contract discussions.

I too read this drivel this morning in the guardian CC. I particularly disliked the casual line about how it was ''nice'' to receive £5M from flogging his shares to Kroenke.

The man is a plank of the highest order.

I've not had time to read it.. but something I would like to know before making a judgement; is the mobile phone company of Usmanov's patently owned by him, or is it via a shell company/conglomerate?

Money?

Guesses?

1.) Fiszman and Dein fell out around 2001. When Dein became allied with Usmanov, Fiszman favoured Kroenke.

2.) Kroenke had already done business with the club in a partnership with his MLS franchise.

3.) Allegedly Hill-Wood has interests in Russian business, and one of his partners is a rival of Usmanov's.

4.) The board are wary of Usmanov's past, even though allegations remain just that.

5.) The old school tie board members were not getting any younger and their younger generations are fans of the club but not interested in running it. The old school tie brigade new it was time to sell up so chose who they thought was the most prudent candidate. Sir Chips and friends cashed in their chips.

The Duffer that is Hillwood is chairman for 1 reason and 1 reason only ,the shares he sold come with the caveat that he is chairman for life so he wont leave until he croaks it !

I have no reason to think Usmanov is anymore philanthropic than Silent Stan but he moves in much larger circles and can do no worse than has been done already.

Reading though my previous posts on this one you may know where I place a lot of blame for this and BTW trust me on this one Danny Fizman didn't put a single cent of his money into to the club other than the shares he bought from Dein !
It is a lie to say he was a clock ender ,it is a lie he paid for Berkamp from his own money ,the only thing he ever did was get paid top fly his jet around by the club and make a huge amount of dosh from selling his .
shares.
It is also bollocks to suggest that he fought Dein to stay in Islington when Dein favoured Wembley which was just 1 of t.he many options under consideration.
The Fizman myth does make me chuckle though and makes me realise that you can fool some of the people all of the time !

1) Going after Hill-Wood isn't the right tactic in my view. He's part of the problem as a board member but everybody knows he's clueless and his only real power is his ability to give the stupidest interviews known to man.
2) Don't copy United.

Maybe something along the lines of asking where the fans' money is going? Or about being a selling club?

Although it's the root of the problem simply complaining about the lack of money being spent is a bit too generic. Loads of clubs complain their owners don't spend enough money but we are in a different position because we (the fans) are actually pumping more money into the club than (nearly) any other fans do, actually linking it to this would be more effective in my view and separate it from the kind of protests about money at Everton etc.

If not what about something separating football from finance? Like "Trophies not Profits" or something like that? As I said I just think it needs to be more specific to our situation because it's not like at other clubs where the owners have no money to put in.

In any case I can't imagine AFC being too keen on anything which paints the board in a negative light.

Seems to me Fiszman was very much behind the new stadium.

Others say he did stump up to but Bergkamp.

I am confused by your hatred of Fiszman as a man who did not put his money into the club, because from what I can tell NONE of our current or previous directors from the last 25 years have literally put money into the club*, they have instead inherited, bought or sold shares.
(*the Bergkamp deal aside which is up for debate).

No one has handed the club a wad of cash such as has happened at Chelsea or Man City.
