Would you accept less success - finishing no higher than say 3rd or 4th at a maximum every year, if not 5th or 6th - if Arsenal had more loyal players in the moulds of Adams, Rocastle, etc?

Tough question but one that has a few different layers in it's answer - I would always want people/players who would lay their lives on the line for the club but then again passion and 100% commitment is the very least we should expect. What I will say though is that failure as a club is acceptable if everybody in the club has done their job to the maximum and clearly that isn't the case in our club as it now stands and IMO it is that more than disloyal players that is holding us back

I might be mistaken, but as much respect as I have for TA6, wasn't he considering joining another club when he was near hes peak? I enjoyed the story of Rocky when GG told him he was being sold, that he actually cried. That's the guy I want at my club.

Footballers now make a mockery of our clubs. It's a sad thing to say, but money has ruined football

BTW...as per your opening line, could we actually have less success?

If it means that we'd have players that actually gave a shit as opposed to effectively stealing their salaries and players that one could identify with then perhaps, yes I could.

I don't feel the same affinity towards Asrenal now as I did in the late '80s and through the '90s. Maybe I'm just getting older (definitely) or maybe the avarice of the game leaves a bitter taste, I dunno.

What would be the point of loyal players who are only good enough to make us finish 5th?

It is not the loyalty on it's own that I value.
Adams, Rocastle etc were loyal, but also hardworking, skillful and winners.

i can tell you that i'd stick with the burger, as i know there is no chance in the world for the other one to happen.

so i'll give you the same answer for this one: i'd prefer 3rd place. there are no more loyal players in modern football. we might as well get used to that idea...

No, players that are getting paid over 50k a week SHOULD be passionate and want to play for the club anyway, why should we accept anything else?

Since the club moved and how things have changed. Also Realising just how much I actually appreciated and loved the place. I've always said that I could accept less success if we stayed at Highbury.

This is what it's all about and why the "7 years, no trophies" thing wouldn't be so hard to accept if it were clear that we were doing everything possible to try & rectify it using all the resources available to us, which clearly isn't the case.

At the moment we have neither success or loyal players so at the moment I would love to have more loyal players. However, I think that keeping your best players and them showing loyalty to the club is often a key factor in success so you could say both come hand-in-hand

TA6 had loads of chances to engineer a move away. He was regularly courted by red nose from the early days when viv Anderson kept 'in contact' with him after moving up there. If he was considering it couldn't have been for long as he understood how much it meant to become a true one club legend.

I know someone (cue the"wheres your sources" abuse

) who is very good friends with TA6 for over 30 years and all the stories he tells me only increases my admiration for the man.

i can tell you, if the amount of money had been in the game years ago, the likes of Adams i doubt would be so loyal. a Chelsea or City would of snapped him up.

there isn't no loyalty anymore, just big wages and dodgy agents who push these deals to get a big whack of the cash. Agents are the scum of football, unsettling players, and touting them like tarts around football elite.
