As much as I would like to agree with you, this statement is so wrong. Toure would be nothing without De Jong, Alonso without Kedhira and Xavi without busquets(*word censored*).

DM's will always be part of the game. We can attack as much as we like but defence is what seals the deal :barscarf:

De Jong only played 14 games last season.....just a thought.

Malaga's troubled Qatari owners are in talks to sell the club to Albanian oil magnate Rezart Taci, but Santi Carzola will still look to push through his move to Arsenal.

Sheikh Abdullah Al Thani bought the club in June 2010 and initially spent heavily with the likes of Ruud van Nistelrooy, Martin Demichelis and Cazorla all arriving on big money.

Under Manuel Pellegrini, they finished fourth last season securing a UEFA Champions League berth but financial issues have set in.

The club owe around £40million in unpaid wages, transfer fees and taxes and they have been given until 1st August by the Spanish authorities to resolve any outstanding issues.

It has now emerged that talks are at a very advanced stage for the sale of Al Thani's stake to multi-millionaire Taci.

However, with money needed now it seems Arsenal's reported offer of around £18million will be enough to land Cazorla.

Malaga had played down talk that they would need to sell Cazorla, but it now seems the Spain international is intent on leaving the club.

Local sources claim that Cazorla and his agent Amadeo Rengel will confirm to the club on Monday their intention to sign for Arsenal.

From today's Metro: Arsenal are back in talks with Caen over M'Baye Niang. #AFC are his preference

Arsenal have already had one bid rejected for Niang, but have told Caen to name their price. Deal not close, but good signs.

Sahin wants the option of a permanent move when his loan deal expires but R.Madrid aren't willing to insert a buy-out clause which is holding up the deal apparently.

This kid is dying to join us and even failed to turn up for their pre season friendly in protest lol.

Who can blame him though? He gets the chance to play without actually doing anything to earn it, have Wenger mollycoddle him and pay him ridiculous wages until he has a purple patch before fucking off to Man Shitty.

OneBardGooner wrote:Wenker inherited the best back four the prem's ever seen....and he has No Idea what constiitutes the kind of defence/defenders necessary...to go beyond Fourth (Arsenal's New Holy Grail!)
why do people recycle this tired BS?
can't be bothered to go into this but '98's solidity is as much based on Vieira/Petit as the famous 5
'02 unbeaten away/dbl team is anchored around Sol at the back
and invincibles back4 are all Wenger players

to be fair you do at least have the good grace to contradict the ridiculous point you've made with this:
OneBardGooner wrote:Kos is excellent and for me - will get better - I love TV5 - even though he can make errors - he gives 101% and takes no prisoners AND should be our next Captain (but that will go to Arteta)

Sagna is exceelent - best RB in the prem...but is injured and the back ups are no where near his level...and LB??/ well gibbs is too light weight and doesn't have much positional sense....santos! jeeeezuss - he's over weight and at best a stand in left mid-fielder...
I agree, we have a very good defence with a serious worry at LB
OneBardGooner wrote:Oh! for the famous Back Four - we could take the prem by storm.. :banghead:  :banghead: :cussing:
only if the rest of the team played well for them - they were never fast
OneBardGooner wrote:Defensively we are screwed...Unless Wenker gets in a Proper Defensive Coach - who organises them into a 'Unit'..I hoped Bould would be able to do that...but going by the pre-seaosn games - things remain as they were...so obviously wenker doesn't want his precious (failing) game plan messed with! :banghead: :cussing:
Bould's had a few weeks with 50% of the defence FFS
I would like us to press the ball better but think a back 5 of Szcz, Sagna, Verm, Kos, Santos is good
Bac is the only one not expected to start the season fit, Jenkinson is nowhere near as bad as people make out
if he irons out the concentration/positional errors that are common in young players its his very effective overlapping and crossing people will focus on

It does amaze me how people get wound up about Pre-season, if Bould was able to coach a defence in a week - with some of it in Nigeria, some in England and some in Asia.....id make him manager!! The defence on tour is young, inexperienced and nowhere near our first choice - neither is the Goalkeeper in most games, or the Midfield infront of them.....i seriously would get too concerned over it yet!

Anyone that plays football knows defending is about cohesion, from the back four up to the strikers - you do not get that in the initial pre-season games.
