Re: McDowell is a Bollocks. aka The rumours thread
For me their injuries were just as bad over the course of the season, the difference was that they had far more strength in depth to cover.highburyJD wrote:we shipped 12 goals in 2 away games early on that makes a huge difference to the stats
I think those two losses were aberrations
we also had a player sent off seemingly every week at the start (+Song retrospective 3match ban)
then that horrible winter run of every fullback dropping
ManUre lost their best defender and responded far better than us
but they didnt have the same wide array of issues
Fair point about those two games, but at the end of the day we did concede those goals. The United game was an absolute anomaly and conceding 8 goals is embarrassing and ridiculous and skew the stats, but each of the 4 goals at Blackburn cost us and equally United could point to conceding 4 vs Everton or 3 vs Newcastle or 6 vs City. At the end of the day there will be one or two outliers but over the course of a season you're never going to win the league conceding as many goals as we did.

but still think our 'outliers' came whilst
a) we were still involved in team restructuring - personally I think the transfer window has to shut before the season starts
b) we were focussed on hugely important and very difficult CL draw. Spanish and Italian fixtures are organised so tough games dont come early on, helpful for Euro qualifiers - Prem should look at that.
