THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Cazorla went to Malaga for £17M which is around the price we will have to pay now, how could we not compete?
on wages not cost
I heard they offered a pretty big basic but tons of massive performance based add ons
(that Cazorla, RVN and Mathijsen now say they never received)

which managers do? you cite Meatface - can't remember hearing him criticise his team after a game in the last 2 decades
Last manager I can remember really laying into his team for a poor performance was that permatan prick at Hull
he lost his job not long after

you're dealing with the egos of talented but spoilt boychild millionaires who have been told their geniuses (geni-ii?) all their lifes, very little mileage in calling them out for shiteness
in sport confidence is all so excuse making is standard, you may as well ask managers for hari-kiri as honesty

Fergie tore em a new one after the Wigan game when they effectively handed the title to citeh. Even if it doesn’t happen often on camera he gives it the legendary ‘hairdryer’ treatment in the changing rooms. Like I said fergie has made them winners. They are afraid to go back into the changing room for fear of the hairdryer

What do our players get for failure? A new contract and double wages.

tearing ManU a new one AFTER they throw it away isnt exactly great management unless those players win the league next season (personally I dont see ManUre making top 2)

there are different styles of management - Meatface is a scumbag but also a force of nature
an all time great and a dinosaur, there wont be many future managers who motivate millionaires with threats and screaming

don't think administering a 'hairdryering' would have rebuilt George Weah or Thierry Henry's confidence - they both doubted they had it in them to make it then went on to be amongst the greatest strikers ever

There's no point in Wenger trying to be Fergie
just as there's no point in Arsenal trying to be Chelski or ManShitty

No point at all.Ferguson is a winner who looked on losing the title on GD as a disaster while our clown of a manger looks on finishing 19pts behind the top 2 as success. You will never hear Fergie say a top 4 finish is a trophy.Wenger gave up trying to win real trophies 7 years ago

the GD thing is hardly a great example - thats Meatface failing in a way we never have

but my point was there's no point in attempting to recreate another managers style
people demanding Wenger finds a plan B or plays defensive football are whistling in the wind
Wenger is essentially an arm round the shoulder manager, Fergie is a tyrant
I'm sure sometimes Fergie coddles players (Ronaldo) and Wenger has obviously got angry (I remember an early RVP red card) but how they are is how they are

Wengers record isnt as good as Meatfaces but Fergie's record is essentially better than everyone elses
if not being as good as him makes you shite everybody is shite

Yep... so true Donaldo.... Wenger is now a serial loser in every way, he needs excuses, some are already in his holster to use, to deflect blame from himself. I can't wait until the time that he goes.

Yep... so true Donaldo....
this is a ridiculous statement, instantly backed up
7 years ago we WON the FA cup FFS
in that period we have had multiple cup finals (the only CL final + 2 x semis in our history) and league title challenges

Whoopie.. fuckey... dooooo.....!!!! Let's get the open top bus out and celebrate these groundbreaking milestones in our club's history..   Perhaps we should put these milestones in the honours page in the program to fill it out a bit... or even put them up with the honours around the souless bowl, to plug the gaps... :?

I'm not suggesting bus parades,
just contradicting the bizarre suggestion Wenger gave up trying to win things

Well he sort of has, hasn't he? He's only started putting out better teams in both the FA Cup and in the latter stages of the Carling Cup so to try to break his enforced trophyless hoodoo... Goodness knows what would have happened had we beaten the mighty Birmingham in the Beer Cup the season before last... we would probably never get rid of the *word censored*..

Signing, paying and handing contract extentions to (in no particular order): Almunia, Denilson, Djourou, Diaby, Gervinho, Vela, Flappy, Rosicky and Bendtner is tantamount to sitting on his stool and asking the cornerman to chuck the towel in.

PS he contrived to send a team out that lost to Birmingham City in the Worthlesstinpot. Birmingham City ffs, one of the worst sides ever to grace the top-flight (post/pre Sky).

If he cannot motivate his team to roll-over 2nd rate oppo in the least important cup what the hell hope is there?
