I find it quite ironic that the main fans that don't now care about RVP and want him gone are the AKB's.... Is it because RVP has dared challenged their idol about our current position?

An Arsenal work mate of mine (yes I do speak to these kind of fans) absolutely loves Wenger, he won't have a bad word said about him, yet when RVP announced that didn't want to sign the contract because of the way he perceived (quite correctly too) the club was going, my mate said... ''fuck RVP... injury proned rapist''.... he also said similar things about Cesc last season... so... just saying...

No worse than the abuse wenger and other players get from "realists" (and I remember a lot of the wenger out brigade were slagging off RVP too when he spent time on the treatment table), lots of hypocritical supporters about these days

Wenger had already devalued the club captaincy, so anything that a player does can hardly diminish it further.

The choice is simple for next season. It has to be the only one who has been a solid and imposing presence on the pitch showing true commitment at every home game.

Absolutely no bloody chance,,, buy another two damn good players and offload him. If we get 20M for him that is of course.

I will stand by my comments re rvp in recent years when I said that he was a quality player but we should get rid cos we cannot afford to carry such players when we have such a small squad. That he had such a great season last season (both in terms of fitness and goals) does please me and make me alter my viewpoint but it doesn't make my comments of the last few seasons wrong either. Maybe last season seen a change in mentality cos he was made captain but it don't matter cos we badly needed him and would have been proper fcuked without him. I still absolutely stand by my comments of the need to offload crocks like diaby and rosicky plus Gibbs is close to being in the same boat IMO whilst I am fearful that sagna is heading down that road and that would greatly disappoint me cos I rate him as the best full back around

I wasn't one of those that rvp's position had become untenable and that he had to go after that statement but I have now come around to the belief that he has to go now regardless and that saddens me tbh Most sane Gooners could see the sense in what he said when questioning the clubs direction but the bile aimed towards him by a section of Gooners suggests that there is no way back for him n their eyes now. If he does a u turn now and wants to sign a new deal citing the signings as the reason why he changed his mind there will be a section of fans who will say that he is only staying cos he failed to get his mega money transfer to citeeh/juve/manure or whoever but there is no doubt in my mind that he would earn more wonga elsewhere.

If he turned round and wanted to sign a new deal then I would still be happy because at the end of the day he is a top player (when fit), and although I won't view him in anything like the same light for me he still hasn't burned his bridges.

That said (and I'm acutely aware of sounding like Gazidis and co here), the club is going to recoup some of the money they've spent this summer somewhere (presuming that we sign Cazorla). In my mind RvP has been gone since that statement, I don't want to continue this trend of being a selling club but I think if you consider the entire circumstances surrounding his conduct, age and injury record, if we get £20+m for him AND bring in Giroud, Podolski, Cazorla and Sahin then we haven't done badly. In fact if we brought in those 4 and lost RvP and Benayoun from last year's squad then for the first time in a fair few seasons I would say we've significantly strengthened (despite not having addressed our defensive frailties).

As angry as I am I think that if he signed a contract before the Euros then we wouldn't have had such an active window, the best window in recent years.

Whatever happens, it was enough to shake the club up.

Think it would be beyond everybody's wildest dreams if we made those two additions to our (attacking) midfield options and then went on and strengthened with some big signings defensively. Wouldn't be too much to ask for for a half-decent back up keeper though.

Van Persie’s complaints about Arsenal failing to buy at the top end of the transfer market have been silenced as Giroud, Podolski and Cazorla have been brought in

Robin van Persie is set to make a dramatic U-turn and stay at the Emirates.

Arsenal’s star striker made it clear at the start of the summer that he wanted to move on ­because of the club’s lack of ­ambition.

Arsene Wenger ordered van Persie to stay at home and miss Arsenal’s tour of the Far East.

But, significantly, the ­Dutchman, who is 29 on Monday, will be part of the Arsenal party that heads to Germany on his birthday.

Club insiders believe van ­Persie, who has a year remaining on his contract, now wants to stay.

The next challenge will be for the club to table a contract that gets him to commit to the club for the long term.

The summer ­signings of Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud, as well as the ­imminent arrival of Spain ­international Santiago Cazorla, in a £9million deal from Malaga, have impressed the captain.

Guess we just have to wait and see what actually happens. Signing a quality right back would be amazing and keeping Van Persie would be as well. He was off the chart last season. While he is still with us then who knows. I would hold no grudge at all as I kind of agree with opinion on recent transfer windows.
