Van Persie saga, officially not extending contract.

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

He'll probably have his ankle ligaments rearranged 1st day of the season anyway. If he stays, yay, and if he goes, meh.

Manchester's a shit-heap too.

Why do you think he issued the statement disagreeing with Wenger and the Board and announcing he would not be signing another contract Burns ?????

I suppose that's what it boils down to. I believe his statement was self serving.

Others may think he did it to force Wenger into buying  , or he released the statement to appease the fans

because i believe that that is the reason he wants to leave!
i dont think hes tried to force wengers hand, nore disgrace anyone, hes just letting us know! hes not come out and said "omg wenger a massive prick wont buy anyone so im leaving" hes simply said that they do not agree on the way the club is moving forward!

tbh id have been more pissed off if he had said nothing!

Apparently he wishses (RvP) to stay in England in which case why the fuck are we not holding him to the last 12 months of his contract? He'll be free in January to sign for whoever-the-hell he wishes.

For once I would like us to dictate the terms of departure for one of our players. Just once.

I'm not interested in the "...don't want to keep an unhappy player :blah: :blah:" either. Draw a line in the sand as a marker for any other berk who wishes to fuck us around.

And that is where we disagree. As a player of the club I don't think he should have released the statement and for me it was to engineer a move for him no matter what his motivations are. It was not for the good of the club as they were not even aware of the statement.

Anyways John Cross reporting in the Mirror that Utd are upping their offer and RVP is still in Germany.

Goal reporting that he is flying in to Manchester this evening.

Personally I would have thought that the Captain of our Club should not have publicly stated that in the same statement that he mentions about wanting to win trophies. This is the only thing I have a problem with Van Persie about.
Would never blame a player for leaving as I don't know what's best for him and his family.

No club would want all their business done in a public way like this and The Arsenal are no different.

I thought it was and is a disgraceful statement to make.
Feck me you must be one precious and very sensitive person if you thing that is disgraceful!!  Have you led a really sheltered life, Vinny? :rubchin:
Maybe I have

Yeah as Captain I don't think he should have made that statement.
The way the Club have treated him down the years they did not deserve that. He should have just told the club he would not be signing the contract and when he leaves I would have wished him well.

i dont understand your point "the way the club have treated him" as if they have raised him from the gutter and turned him into the king of the world!

I think Arsenal have treated him well but that doesn't mean I think he owed us so much that he should stay.

I think he owed the manager a bit more respect than releasing a statement like that. I found it disrespectful is all.

Unlike others I don't know what his motivations are, whether it be money, trophies or just a change of scenery, but that statement was issued not with the good of Arsenal in mind.

We are going around in circles here mate on 2 different threads so no point in saying the same things again and again.

He's most certainly both.
he knows full well Arsenal will not win another trophy under Wenger, he has far too many weaknesses to challenge seriously.

He also wants one last pay day, with his injury history this is quite likely to be his last contract.

Can't blame him for wanting to move to a club that can realistically win things.

I have kept quiet all this time out of respect and loyalty for the club and as agreed with Mr. Gazidis and Mr. Wenger, but since there is so much speculation in the media, I think it is fair for you guys to know what’s really going on at the moment.
"As announced earlier this year I had a meeting with the Boss and Mr. Gazidis after the season. This was a meeting about the club’s future strategy and their policy. Financial terms or a contract have not been discussed, since that is not my priority at all.
"I personally have had a great season but my goal has been to win trophies with the team and to bring the club back to its glory days.
"Out of my huge respect for Mr. Wenger, the players and the fans I don’t want to go into any details, but unfortunately in this meeting it has again become clear to me that we in many aspects disagree on the way Arsenal FC should move forward.
"I’ve thought long and hard about it, but I have decided not to extend my contract. You guys, the fans, have of course the right to disagree with my view and decision and I will always respect your opinions.

"I love the club and the fans, no matter what happens. I have grown up and became a man during my time with Arsenal FC. Everybody at the club and the fans have always supported me over the years and I have always given my all (and more) on and off the pitch.
"I am very proud of being part of this fantastic club for the last 8 years. As soon as Mr. Gazidis is back from his 2-week holiday in America further meetings will follow and I will update you if and when there are more developments."
Sorry but I don't see anything in that statement that could be said to be 'slagging off Wenger and the club'!! :? Indeed, I'm one of the few gooners that is glad that RVP came out and said something to put the fans in the picture, rather than being reliant on the club's policy of keeping the truth under wraps while trying to convince the fans all was hunky-dory and then springing a surprise on us just before the season starts by saying he's been sold for £15m or whatever.  At least this way we're prepared.
nothing self serving about this at all, nor is it rude toward the club or wenger!
its just the truth
So he did it for us fans

Yeah right
no he did it because he wants to win things, and felt that making that public was the best way forward!
are you naive enough to think that the players play to win things for you? they do it to win for themselves

      WHAT!???? What a load of greedy *word censored*....huh!...I dunno
