As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

21 years old now, a run of 4-5 years and then the Barce bullshit will start again. No thanks.
I'm pretty sure that there's meant to be some kind of UEFA rule about coming out and talking about/encouraging players to join. Sick and tired of putting up with Pique/Valdes/Xavi/Iniesta/Messi/Mascherano/Puyol/Busquets/Alves/Pedro/Ferguson/Rooney saying how well Fabregas/RvP/Song would fit into their club and how excited they are at the prospect of signing them when they haven't had a bid accepted or perhaps even not offered anything.

How about when Koscielny was saying how well Giroud would fit into our team before we had signed him.... All clubs and players are at it we shouldnt be so touchy about it as we're as guilty as anyone

Fair point. Managers have been quite honest about the extent to which tapping up occurs, and I don't doubt that we've not been 100% clean. But on the other hand, I've never seen anything like last summer when almost every single day a Barcelona player was coming out and begging Fabregas to join, it became an absolute farce.

Arteta also spoke about cazorla before we signed him
the playing mantis wrote:thank u leginge. the problem is though our wages are not excessive for a club of our supposed size and the company we want to keep. sure its completely misallocated and wasted on certain players, but its level is around what it should be if we are really competing for th PL and CL. so how is this ever going to improve...will we always rely on player sales. i thought the move was to allow us to compete...waht lies. sure sponsorhip deals are undervalued but thats not going to make a massive diff when they are renegotiated.
our model is crap.
True - but you also need to take in sponsorship. Currently Liverpool get £20m per year for their kit sponsorship - we get £5m per year.
Assume we can get another £15m per year and reduce the £5m or so finance payments we suddenly are making £25m per year (including the current £5m net profit)
This could pay for an additional £15m player and £75k wages. So theoretically a fully functioning sponsorship revenue stream will lead to an increase in the models profits.
Essentially it's all jam tomorrow which we have been fed for 6 years now. Moving was not really about competing. It was about securing the Arsenal name as a global brand, increasing value and making people rich. So far they have succeded.
I like to think of it in terms of the Republic building the second Death Star. It took years to build and probably cost a fair bit (Although I think the Storm Troopers earned a lot less than Denilson and Bendtner) but the ultimate goal was domination. Look how well that turned out...
finally an excellent post in this thread. the end is high class
Aw thanks BG! Good to see somebody appreciating my self sustainability for beginners analogy
