Van Persie saga, officially not extending contract.

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

about van persie, i think this is the clear situation where it's acceptable to use one of football's golden rules, which say: "when a player from your team goes to your rivals, he is a *word censored*."

he can be the fucking messiah for all i care, but when a player leaves your team to go to your rival in the peak of his career after swearing all the love in the world and being your captain, he is a *many words censored* and i hope united have the frustrating van persie we had for seasons.

JD is the biggest WUM on the Forum. When you don't post and just read (as I've done for the past 6 months) you get a better sense of perspective. It's all a big game to him.

but bg, if we only accepted there bid he didnt have much choice. he wants to win stuff. money obviously is a factor, but ultimatly he wants to win stuff. we all know he wont win stuff here.

by all accounts had he changed his mind and wanted to stay (as some have suggested happned) the club would have sold him anyway as they had signed giroud and pod in anticipation of his leaving (as admitted by aw). had he stayed these 2 wouldnt have been signed, and having signed them it would have screwed the club as they couldnt make the cash back. they would have forced him out.

its up to the club not to sell him to supposed rivals they were not forced to accept uniteds bid, knowing all the consternation it would cause.

mate, he's obviously the one who wanted out from the beginning. i understand he wants to move to a club that's been more successfull and that will pay him almost twice, i just think that all those words of wanting to fight for titles at arsenal, loving the club, captain and all that, and then releasing that statement to make his position untennable... that's all agent bullshit, he's just like any other player out there, which i understand, but then don't come up with the i want to do it at the club shit.

in 8 years that's the first time he contributes in an entire season, no other club would be stupid enough to keep such an injury prone player for so long. it's a one season payment from 7 years we stood up for him, i remember many here in this forum wanting him sold two years ago because of his injury record.

i'm not removing the club's fault from not building a more successful team, but i just don't accept him moving to the mancs, he's another nasri for me.

Don't agree with that - we disagree on almost everything AFC at the moment but I don't doubt that his posts are genuine feelings even though I don't agree with them and sometimes am baffled by them
We don't all have to have the same thoughts on Arsenal matters to be genuine Gooners and this place would quickly die a death if we were all the same

Btw I have to admit that watching rvp smiling and waving to the manure fans as he went in for his medical tonight, stung me a lot - it surprised me how much it stung actually, to the point that I could actually see myself joining in with the abuse when he returns to the grove despite all my prior comments to the contrary  I really hope I take the high ground though

Disagree. Will only debate points that are objective-based i.e can't be proven either way. Anything to do with facts he side-steps. Calls my point about making the most out of commercial deals moronic. Is it not fair that as a team selling its best players every year and not competing for the title, we won't make as much as say United or City?? How is that moronic? It's basic marketing /business sense. If he thinks that the panacea for our woes is signing new sponsorship deals in 2014, then he's deluded.
