Are they serious? The council that is not the Gunners. So not one pub on Holloway Road can have people drinking outside! Crazy.A little big warning.. the police have made it an offence to drink outside any pub ..in fact anywhere in the Borough of Islington on match day..it is a controlled zone..there is a hefty fine max £500. Signs have gone up today.. we have a beer garden so you are welcome.. I am being serious so spread the word.. enjoy the sunshine kids..see you tomorrow xxx

Love to see how the law are going to enforce this, short of nicking 200,000 people!

God forbid anyone actually enjoys themselves at the football anymore, huh?

Hopefully not, I am not convinced. I live right near the Grove so I will look on my way home and see if the signs have changed. For about a year now, the whole of Islington as been a controlled driking zone (around Arsenal it's been in longer), which doesn't ban outside drinking but give police more powers to stop people. I think this is why loads of the pubs have the roped off bits. There is nothing on the Council website about any changes to this arrangement.
I drink in the The Junction so if it is true, it will be even busier than normal tommorrow!
Re: Outside drinking ban on match days.
I think the controlled zone on match days has been in force for a couple of seasons now. I got caught out a while ago enjoying a beer on the way to the ground, but the police were fairly polite about it.

I think I remember a copper saying that it had been in place since we moved there. They've always clamped down on drinking on the concourse, but last 2 seasons they've been strict about drinking on the road outside the ground (not sure what it's called but they're particularly strict when you turn off Holloway Road by London Met Uni building if that makes sense).Simon wrote:I think the controlled zone on match days has been in force for a couple of seasons now. Really inconvenient as if the weather's decent it's nice to have a few cans/bottles outside, watching the fans go past etc. We tend to get moved on by the police quite often and it's fucking pointless and annoying but they've never threatened to dish out fines, only asked us to finish our beers or chuck them.

Best solution would be all round to yours for pre and post match beers. One Tony Adams wrote: I live right near the Grove
