As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Arsene Wenger - penny wise, pound poor. Saves a few £k here and there whilst the Club wastes away. Will love to be a fly on the wall when our Sponsorship deals are negotiated...
Nike, Emirates etc.. "Sorry Ivan. You're not Box Office anymore. We will pay you £5m per season. Take it or leave it"
Ivan - "How about £20m per season."
Nike "Ok, the offer is now £4m per season".
Ivan - "Ok then."
The problem I have over this is that we as a club clearly wanted to sign him, had put in a lot of time scouting him and had been negotiating for him over the last few weeks so if he was a player that we valued so highly then shouldn't we have gone that extra mile to get him ? I look at de Jong and believe 100% that he would be ideal for us (as would Martinez btw ) but it is obvious that the club don't value him so as disappointed as I am that we won't sign him, it isn't something that angers me cos we were never in for him in the first place - sahin (or mata or Alonso or vertoghan) is a diffent story cos we did want him and I am fed up of us always losing out in these deals due to our own incompetence
Btw rigsby, hasn't the deal collapsed cos we differed on what the buy out clause should be as opposed to no buy out clause at all ? You said that we were right not to agree to a deal if there was no clause but it seems to be common knowledge that wenger felt that the price was couple million more than he was willing to pay

No, apparently Sahin does not want to leave Real on a permanent basis, and Jose came out only 2 days ago to say he would not be leaving Real. The money thing has boiled down to percentage of wages and the price to get him on loan. The deal was expected to be done on Monday with us, its not really us dithering on this one, more a case of the goalposts being moved by agents and clubs. With loan deals like this its complicated. As I say I can understand Arsenal's stance on this.
As a Dutch Gooner, born & raised in the same city as Judas RvP, I know our premier league 'Eredivisie' by heart and to be honoust: Apart from Vertonghen I don't think there is even ONE player who was active in our country last season, that's able to be worthy of the Arsenal-shirt directly. There are some big players coming up, but they still have to grow in Holland. If they leave early, like Büttner, Anita or Assaidi, they will be just new Ryan Babels. Utter
The main players the next years will be Leroy Fer (FC Twente) or Kevin Strootman (PSV), considering the DM-position. But they are not there yet. LONG WAY TO GO!
