Manchester United 8
Arsenal 2
I was there, it was bad....so bad that a year on I believe one day it could happen again and very soon

Re: Happy first birthday
Ah that day
Watched it in a bar full of mancs (standard) in Greece. Needless to say I got very drunk that day, work up the next day and for a split second I was oblivious. And then it all came crashing back to me, my gf was not loving me that day!
Got back to work and the lovely people I used to work with had decorated my workshop with 8-2 signs! Fuckers

Re: Happy first birthday
Ive been to games where have taken a pasting like the 6-2 defeat to united in the league cup during 1990-1991 for example when it was a competition to take seriously but i have to say the 8-2 defeat to united last season was the most embarrassed ive ever been
Wenger should have walked or been sacked within 5 minutes of the final whistle, that was the single point at which he must have known the job at Arsenal had moved beyond him.
Shameful is an understatement

Re: Happy first birthday
one year since the great victory over Udinese to secure another season of CL football
the 8-2 defeat was disappointing but ultimately had very little significance on the season.
more damaging is the fact that a year later we have sold them our best player
now that is significant.

Re: Happy first birthday
I remember that league cup game as i was there too. I remember walking out of the ground and hearing the manc fans saying how good a game Paul Parker had had!! Now that hurt, and i begged my dad not to make me go to school the next day as, surprise, surprise most of the kids at school in the part of Kent i lived were Utd, or bin-dipper fans.flash gunner wrote:Ive been to games where have taken a pasting like the 6-2 defeat to united in the league cup during 1990-1991 for example when it was a competition to take seriously but i have to say the 8-2 defeat to united last season was the most embarrassed ive ever beenWenger should have walked or been sacked within 5 minutes of the final whistle, that was the single point at which he must have known the job at Arsenal had moved beyond him.

I actually saw 2 of the 3 games we lost that year- the other being the Chelsea game at the Bridge.
Thought i was becoming a bit of a jinx

Anyway, that game hurt a lot more than last years shamblolic display as it was unexpected.
I remember feeling at the time the 8-2 was always going to happen. Think it may be a more regular occurrence over the next couple of seasons, especially early on in the fixture list with Wenger only realising how shite the side he has assembled stumbles through the first few games.

Why would anyone want to bring back memories of one of the darkest days in Arsenal's history and worse, entitle the thread 'Happy First Birthday' ?

g60gooner for all the reasons youve listed the 90-91 loss pales into insignificance comp[ared to last year. The 6-2 was a freak loss we conceded 6 in that game and yet in the league conceded 18 all fucking season!!!! It was a freak yet last year was totally predictable and THAT is why last season's debacle was shameful, fucking shameful

Re: Happy first birthday
we lost 8-2 because half the team had not been signed at that point or was injured or was tired after their heroic display in Italy.
when later on in the season we had the fully fit team to face United AT HOME we still lost. We were therefore always going to lose at OT. Whether we lost 8-2 or 2-1 is irrelevant - there were still only 3 points at stake. There had been millions of pounds however at stake in the match in Italy. That is why that match was far more important. If you don't understand that then you don't understand the modern day mind set at the club.

Re: Happy first birthday
I don't disagree, i'm simply saying how i felt after the 6-2 game, as Arsenal was pretty much my life at the time. I felt part of something special back then. The fans seemed to be important to the club and the players etc.flash gunner wrote:g60gooner for all the reasons youve listed the 90-91 loss pales into insignificance comp[ared to last year. These days i feel seperated from what happens and therefore it just doesn't have the same effect anymore. i think the 8-2 just re-affirmed how things have changed.

Re: Happy first birthday
I was close to tears watching the last 20 minutes. It was worse than Paris '06, it was a betrayal of our club. The worst thing was the sympathy from Whiskey Nose after the game. He is suppose to hate us because we are competing with his team for titles. But not anymore , that confirmed that we were no longer a top club. I felt that Wenger should have quit on the following day. I felt there was no way forward for the club with him as Manager. He didn't and in reality we cannot look beyond a fourth place finish any time soon. In the return game at the Grove United were there to be beaten but again the Manager cocked it up.
Tomorrow is the first Anniversary of the sale of Armonde Traore, reasons to be cheerful.

Yes had he got sacked/resigned then the actual result would have been consigned to the past and we could celebrate but heyho, maybe if the chavs give us an equally embarassing thrashing then he will walk......or maybe not, to be honest he will never walk so there is not point in wishing us a defeat for the greater good cos it will be just that......a defeatSammyDroppedHisShorts wrote:LeftfootlegendGooner wrote:Fek me this is either the worst ever attempt at a vanity thread or wumming in action, would have expected this to be posted by TWO people on here but not you sammy![]()
