Players behaviour after the Stoke match!

After the game I was waiting at Stoke-on-Trent station for the train back to civilized society when a full 9 carriage Virgin train pulled up to take the players back to London (a service which cost me £50 for a seat later that day) while AFC would rather spend the money on hiring a whole train for 30-40 staff instead of just a few carriages.

Anyway, there was a line of 3 or 4 police officers separating the fans from the players which meant this was the perfect opportunity for the fans to interact with the players/staff. As Theo walked out on the platform the crowd started chanting his name to which his reaction was to stare at the floor not even bat an eyelid and jump on the train (he wasn't even wearing headphones). Mugged off. This was the common reaction apart from Jenkinson, The Ox and Mertesacker who all waved and responded to whatever the crowd said usually with a thanks. AW simply raised his hand in the air and didn't even look at us.

Now I know you might say that the players are under no obligation to interact or to show some form of gratitude for the support they receive but after paying £40 for a ticket and £80 on travel, to see the majority of the players simply ignore us made me think whats the point? Travelling half the length of the country to support them when they cant even be bothered to look at us or applaud back when they are only a few feet away. So what am I supporting? A bunch of over-paid out of touch idiots? If AW had simply said thanks for your support today to the 20 or so of us standing by the train I would at least have felt our support was being acknowledged. What am I travelling up to Liverpool next weekend for? Why am I spending a grand on a season ticket? I have never felt so out of touch with the club I've supported for 20 years.

That is a sad story. can't blame you for being annoyed. I know the Olympic attitude and spirit has become a bit of a cliche but when you read stories like what ElliotGooner had experienced on Sunday maybe the cliches are true.
How or why do these "sportsmen" believe they are above talking to their fans ?

Does my head in that. Doesn't take much to make eye contact, give a wave maybe stop for a few seconds to say thanks for your support. I know they must get it a lot but its part of what goes with that 60,000 quid a week, especially if they engage their brains and realise that Arsenal fans hanging around Stoke have probably put a lot of time and money and effort into supporting them.

Personally I've never seen the attraction of being waved at by a player tbh. I go to matches to support the team/club, not the players individually.

BUT;

I also agree that this type of ignorance is indicative of the modern footballer. Selfish, self centred, arrogant mercenary bastards most of them. If nothing else it is POLITE to acknowledge someone that has said hello or waved to you. For £60000 to £120000 a week, it's the least they could do. Especially if there are kids there. Personally, if I was on that a week to kick a ball, I'd make a bit of time to chat to anyone that wanted to chat. Manners count.

Saxly a reflection of modern footballers who are brought up by the clubs to have as little contact as possible with the great unwashed who pay their wages.
Last season many times at the final whistle they trudged offwithout acknowledging the Gooners loyal support, which is just not acceptable.
Hopefully Walcott was too ashamed at asking £100k a week to look people in the eye who earn £30k a year,but I doubt it somehow.
