WALCOTT - which position is best etc?
Re: Theo Walcott - Yes or No
I haven't voted (since its not my club!) but I would imagine he should go. Can't stand modern day footballers who seem to constantly take the piss. Walcott has never lived up to his potential and is a decent (and no more than that) winger, who has a brilliant game once every few months. Instead of being grateful for Arsenal signing him and giving him regular football, he suddenly thinks he is worth more than 75k a week for the next 5 years. Sorry like but on performances alone I wouldn't offer the bloke 50k nevermind 75k and it seems as if he's holding out for considerably more. I honestly don't know why he has it in his head that he is worth being paid an amount comparable to the top players in the league when he is nowhere near the top echelon of premier league players. I don't think any top player should rely solely on one attribute but without pace Walcott would be lucky to still be at Southampton, he really isn't up to much as a footballer. Thankfully for Arsenal he is English and hyped, I'd flog him for a good few million and go and buy a properly talented footballer to replace him

Re: Theo Walcott - Yes or No
3 goals for england v croatia and he thinks hes the dogs bollocks. has he ever had a sustained period when he played well??? not just a 30 mins every now and then. he shouldnt even start on our 1st 11 imo as hes only usefull (sometimes) when coming off the bench. he wants £100g pw, well fcuk off cause arsenal are bang on, not bowing to him and his agent. pay rises are meant when ure good at ure job, or u keep improving, theo dosent offer any of those options.

Re: Theo Walcott - Yes or No
Lets say he settles for 90k pw. 90*4 =360k pm or 4.3m a year. In a 4 year contract that is 17m BEFORE bonuses which would take it around the 20m mark. Now i'm not suggesting this is good enough reason to flog him, 20m cannot play for you, but this needs to be Wenger's call.
Re: Theo Walcott - Yes or No
No way is he worth £100k.Top Londoner wrote:So baba. Are you saying that we should keep him on a five years £100k p/w wage, rather than sell him?
That makes no sense. The player has had six years to prove he is worth a bumper pay day.
It will be nigh on impossible to replace him in the last hours of the transfer market. Club's will know that we have good cash to spend, and Wenger will trot out the old, 'we have cover and shall promote from within'.
We then get spanked by Liverpool this weekend and Wenger will say that it is not ideal and we shall look at strenthening the 'squad' in January.
Liar.
Then again is DIaby worth 60k?
Is Chamakh worth 70k?

Is Shitachi worth 60k?
Is Flapianski worth £40k?
Is Gervinho worth 65k?

Is Denilson worth 55k?
Is Bendtner worth 52k?
Is Djourou worth 50k?
Is Santos worth 50k?
Is Ramsey worth 40k?
Is Park worth his rumoured 40k?
Is Theo currently worth the 60k he is on?
How many full seasons has Wilshere had? Answer: a half season of good form. Is that worth his 50k deal at that age and with that injury record?
So, taking all this into consideration - and our useless manager's comical 7 mil + wages; Arsenal are obviously one of the worst run clubs in England.
So where's the problem with overpaying Walcott? We are doing it already!

In an ideal world Walcott would be sold and the following players signed, all affordable:
1. Mouss Dembele (Song replacement, £15 mil)
2. Nuri Sahin (ooops thought we'd fuck about!)
3. Stefan Jovetic (an attacker who can actually find the net)
4. Julio Cesar (as a back up goalie who has experience)
5. Nigel DeJong
6. Neven Subotic (as a defender who can play across the back line)
Now. Every one of those players is/was easily affordable.
DeJong contract almost up.
Cesar is joining QP effing R
Sahin was ours until Le Clown and Gazidis stepped in.
Dembele woulda jumped at the chance of joining Arsenal.
In fact the only tricky ones there would be Jovetic and Subotic. And Jovetic is at Fiorentina, who are short a few bob and have no European football to offer, a team scraping relegation. A bid of about £18 mil and he could be bought.
DeJong, Sahin and Cesar would cost eff all between them. Only Dembele and Joveitc here cost serious dosh.
Subotic is an option but he might be the only expensive one in the list.
Still. We have Diaby and Cloueless...

keep him. he will undoubtedly show up week in week out for another team and i'd rather keep him on our books

Re: Theo Walcott - Yes or No
Only Baba could reel off a long list of players that we pay too much and then wonder why we didn't match Liverpool's offer of paying Sahin's £115k/w wages as well as a loan fee with no set fee to buy at the end.

Sahin is the Bundesliga Player of the Year 2010/11.northbank123 wrote:Only Baba could reel off a long list of players that we pay too much and then wonder why we didn't match Liverpool's offer of paying Sahin's £115k/w wages as well as a loan fee with no set fee to buy at the end.
That means that in a league with players of the level of Ribery, Robben, Schweinsteiger, Kagawa, Lewandowski, Schurrle, Goetze and Reus; he was voted the best player of the lot.
Hence the reason he as good enough to be signed by Real Madrid and Mourinho in the first place.
The other players I mentioned are hit and wouldn't get a game at Doncaster in the cases of Shitachi, Flapianski, Park, Gervinho (he'd be a sub), Chamakh, Denilson and Santos. Oh and Jenkinson too.
So the difference is: nothing wrong with paying top players big money, everythin wrong with paying shite big money.
How hard is that to understand?

Where he flopped.Hence the reason he as good enough to be signed by Real Madrid and Mourinho in the first place.
I would keep Theo, he does genuinely love the club so I've heard, and 12 mil for 6 years with him isn't worth it

I have to agree with Robson on Talkshite ....

He is hard on Wenger which is probably why he isn't on the Arsenal Player anymore, but I find myself agreeing with what he says here.

Re: Theo Walcott - Yes or No
100% No from me, he simply hasn't improved since he's come in to the team, he didn't deserve his last rise and he certainly doesn't deserve to be one of the clubs highest paid players ever.
His stats last year were good but they don't even begin to tell half the story, they don't tell how many times he ran into blind alleys, don't show how many times he fucked up his final ball, don't show how many times he hesitated when he could have used his one assest to steam in on goal, they don't tell how many times he went missing over the course of the season.
He has had the odd good game over the years, Chelsea on boxing day a couple of years ago springs to mind, Barcelona at home when he came on as sub and helped save the game, his 2nd half display (not first half) against Spurs last year but none of that commands 100K a week.
He wants to stay, we all know that but he wants to stay because he knows if he leaves it's game over, no manager at a top side would give him half as many chances as Wenger has.
I really hope the club stand firm on this and he either signs what is on the table or he is sold.
