Now the Champions League thread

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

My preferred teams:

Pot 2;
- Valencia. Need to visit Mestalla.
- Zenit. Really want to get to a game in Russia, Zenit's ground is a beauty - much more attractive than Luzhniki. In reality though, with flights & visas, I probably won't be able to afford it :(
- Schalke. Love a bit of footy in Germany. Easy to get to, not so keen on their modern spacebowl stadium though.
- Dynamo Kyiv. Eastern Europe, lovely. The fact that they play in that awful new Olympic Stadium now is not so lovely. :(

Pot 3 (this pot is a bit "meh");
- Juve. Easy to get to. One of the few modern stadiums built to encourage a decent atmosphere.
- Spartak. It's Russia! Not so appealing as Zenit though, and probably to expensive to get to :(
- PSG. Easy to get to. Parc des Princes ain't what it was though.

Pot 4 (so many great choices!);
- Galatasaray. Could get very moody what with their previous with us. Ali Sami Yen used to be one of the most genuinely intimidating stadiums, would have loved to have visited. Aslantepe is about as intimidating as AG. :(
- BATE. The stadium in Minsk where they play their CL matches is one of my favourites, a real Communist beauty! Need a £115 visa though & tourists need to report to the police station on arrival for approval :shock: Ballache.
- Dinamo Zagreb. Eastern Europe, fuck yeah! Maksimir Stadium is not what it was though, most of their fans are in boycott & atmosphere is not so good now.
- Nordsjaelland. Not so appealing now I found out they'll place CL matches at Parken in Copenhagen.
- Borussia Dortmund. Done it before, but not with Arsenal. Wouldn't say no, probably the perfect football stadium.

I'd like to get a team we haven't played before so that the club can further diversify by telling our story in a new part of the world ,this will excite out main sponsors emirates and nike !
Isn't it a shame that teams from China and the Middle east aren't allowed into the Champions League,its so unfair !

there are some really horrible teams in there who we could face.
I think we will end up with a lot of travelling.

still good excuses for Wenger when we lose the next league game after each match

Proper(and wealthy) fans go away in Europe, respect to you all. Wish I was in a position to be able to contemplate paying a £115 Visa just to be able to get into a country to watch a match!

Good draw for us: Braga, Anderlecht, Nordsjaelland

Awful draw for us: Valencia, Juventus, Dortmund.

As usual, we'll land something in between, although when was the last time we got a proper minnow, like Chelsea going to Cluj or Man City playing BATE? I can't remember one recently. Last one might have been that Scandinavian team, forget the name.....

Can we withdraw from this competition? Whats the point of entering a competition you've got no chance of winning?

Probably FC Thun. Although saying that we've still played some very poor teams like Slavia Prague.

Agree Flash mate. Oh but hang on this is the reason we moved to The Emirates wasn't it, to compete with Europe's Elite, to go toe to toe with Barca, Real, Milan..... :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

But we pick up a massive cheque which we will trouser. It isn't all about the glory of winning on the pitch, but the glory of retaining our glorious title on the balance sheet table.
