Essien

Post by jrthgooner »

I would have signed him in a flash!! Good enough for Real Madrid but not for us on loan or as a a permanent signing!!

Having missed out on De Jong already today surely he was a must given we have nobody with experience to play in this key role with experience in the Premier League?

No, I think Essein would have been a stop gap solution in a position that badly needs filling (DM).

Sahin on loan, with an option to buy, would have been a step in the right direction. Perhaps even Dempsey. Or De Jong. All three possible options well within affordability... Let's not even get started.

Agree with stop-gap (although that's far better than nothing). But I don't see how Sahin/Dempsey would have been more of a step in the right direction to filling the DM role? They're both far more attacking. Sahin may turn out to be good but Dempsey is a flat track bully, big fish in a small pond.

I feel sorry for Essien as he was a quality player before the injuries.

He was one player I would of loved to see in an arsenal when he was fit. Didn't wenger once come out and say the old 'we nearly had him' statement/excuse a while back.

He indeed did, but signing him would have killed Denilson... (Mores the pity... an opportunity missed again to kill the tosser)

His knees are more clapped out than and old brass's poon after 40 years in service.

So whilst I still would after a few beers, it would have to be a no in the cold light of day.

How do you know Arsenal did not make enquires about Essien during the window? Or how do you know that Chelsea wouldn't allow him to join us? Or that Essien himself didn't want to join us?

You are having a laff - the chavs loaned us benyoun last season didn't they and the manure c**ts sold silvestre to us a few years ago and I know that you can argue with some justification that both players were past their sell by date but then so is essien. The fact is that we don't know if the big clubs will sell us any kind of a decent player cos we don't have any interest in buying one of them and won't pay the money required even if we did covet one of their better players  Please don't suggest that any of the big clubs see us as a threat cos nobody in their right mind sees us as a realistic threat
