The problem, augie, is that we have been instructed by the owners to cut out the abusive nature of the forum in a bid to make it more inclusive to all Gooners, not just the anti-Wenger brigade (of which I, and most of the mods, are all members!).augie wrote:SammyDroppedHisShorts wrote:Yes I edited them...what's the issue?
Carry on guys...remember the closure last season.....let's get it closed guys....I am sorry you don't like the edit but then I don't like doing tippers competitions for 30 weeks which was then stopped because of closure....now for me that was a kick in the mouth as I worked hours on that thing......yet a few words of abuse aimed at our manager and we get a bit of tension....
When I have edited I have written a nice, polite message to said person...I really don't think we need to bit bat and tie back because you have a word edited......for your
Information I made a comment yesterday that wasn't acceptable and it was edited by one of my fellow mods....I was wrong and accepted the decision....
PLUS I don't read every single word written...I just judge what I see and act....ooooohh I sound like Wenger
Sammy I ain't making a personal attack on you or any of the mods on here and I feel I have always been one of those paying tribute to the commitment you guys show this placeWhat I have an issue with is what I perceive to be an over zealous policy which seems to outlaw name calling and the policy seems to have gone into overdrive of late. Maybe I am wrong but I thought that this place was closed down cos one individual incorrectly believed that this forum had published details about her like her address and then complained to the hosting site ? If that is correct then what has that to do with name calling ?

Personally I don't see the big deal about name calling unless it is libelous - maybe I am splitting hairs but I feel that to judge it to be abuse it needs to be said face to face or at least directly at the person on here but unless wenger is a member on here then that ain't happening. None of us are happy with the way that the world has gone all pc but surely we have a choice as to whether we join in with it or not ? Football is an emotional sport and as I have said before, people do need to let off some steam from time to time.
I am hoping that this clampdown is just being cranked up a few levels for these few days on the back of another disgraceful transfer window and the expected backlash arriving from it. I shudder to think what will happen if name calling is permanently outlawed and foresee a quick expulsion from the forum for yours truly if this is the case
We have been told to delete any abusive posts that are basically just name-calling or that might be libellous. Now, we have to make a judgement call on these things. And to be honest, under pressure we sometimes have to go with deleting even if it errs on the side of over cautious.
Tone is everything too. If someone posts that Wenger is an idiot and then qualifies that with a decent argument we can mostly let it go. A bit of name calling that is obviously done in jest is also acceptable. But when it is reduced to the lowest common denominator of personal abuse we have to cut it.
Finally, to everyone. We mods are human. We get things right. We get things wrong. Don’t take it so personally if we delete or edit a post.
