Abou Diaby - Injuries Thread

Don't agree mate. There are clearly people that want him to fail - some of the comments about him are way over the top. Here we are celebrating a good win and a good performance and there are still references to that silly joke about wearing the Spurs shirt that backfired. If its like that when he plays well and we win, lets see the reaction when he doesn't and we lose. That's not being very even-handed is it?

I don't think I've ever got stuck into one of our players like that on the back of a handful of games. Eduardo was shit when he came back from injury and bottled every tackle but was given patience and respect. Likewise Ramsey - I was amongst the first to say that he needed time after an injury like that. Don't get me wrong, when you've done a Chamakh or an Arshavin and been consistently shit for 18 months, I will chuck them the abuse they deserve but not till then.

Nobody abused him for jumping out of tackles. Just saying its a concern. Which it is.

I'm convinced that the majority of people on here actually WANT him to fail. Honestly, I've never heard so much vitriol to one of our players.

As I say, when he's been fit for a whole year - like Chamakh, Denilson, Walcott, Almunia, Arshavin, Bendtner etc - then come back and rejoice in the fact that you were right. I know most on here are incapable of that and will be sitting there waiting to slam him at the Southampton game at the first sign of a misplaced pass.

Give the guy a break FFS. He was very good at Stoke and magnificent yesterday. Certainly better than anything Ramsey produced in 40 odd attempts last year.

Good to be back mate. I had hoped to come back to find Red declaring undying love for Chamakh and Fabianski and suggesting that Jenkinson be made captain so somewhat surprised to hear about his switch to the 'dark side'. Reassuring to find Baba in the same form as last season though. A little bit more love for Abou and this place will back to its former glory

Diaby has had great games before, they always come in 'ones'. After that one great game he is either shit, injured, or a combination of the two. If he puts in similar performances over the next 3 or 4 games, even I will start to wonder if I'm wrong.....but deep down I know he is lazy and braindead......I still need convincing I'm wrong!!

Also thought Diaby had his best ever game for us.
Main reason was he actually had a "Final Ball".

His ability to dribble or run powerfully through midfield has never been in doubt; what was the problem was his inability to do anything useful with the ball once he had completed this run.
So poor have his decision making and passing been that combined with his injury problems my conclusion was to sell him.

But he did well, let's hope he carries on in this good form.

Found with diaby previously he could beat or go around 2 or 3 guys then when he had done that it was like now what the fuck do i do and while hes thinking somebody came and took the ball off him.

A player I have always believed if he could stay healthy has the potential to be similar to Yaya Toure. Due to hardly playing he has been a whipping boy from a lot of sections in the crowd. There are fams who when he does play are waiting for him to make a mistake just to have a go. He does lose the ball in some areas where a simple pass would be the better option, but yesterday showed what he can do if he takes a few risks in our half!

I dont know if anyone else noticed this or if I imagined it but my concern for Diaby yesterday was the amount of tackles he jumped out of. At one point I swear he didn't fancy it against Sterling

Yeah I'm glad I wasn't the only one. Fuck that was frustrating to watch. I get that he's just coming back from injury, and that hesitation will always be there, but if you're back on the pitch that to me says he's ready to play - and getting "stuck in" is part of playing in England, like it or not.

Anyway, Diaby...

I am not a big Diaby fan at all. I'm happy to be won back, but this guy has never amounted to his potential and rivals Walcott in the amount of overpraise he gets for his few good games, and the lack of blame he gets for his poor outings.

My problem with AD2 is that he comes across as lazy. He really shines when he has time and space, and he's always been really good at dribbling through sloppier midfields, such as bottom-half-of-the-table teams. Liverpool looked like one of those teams yesterday, and thus he had a "good game". But he was hardly prolific against the embattled Sunderland midfield only a week prior, a team that played with a lot more midfield quality than Liverpool displayed. Diaby shies out of tackles - even prior to his injuries (maybe that's why he's always getting hurt) - and rarely uses his massive frame to his advantage. By all rights he should be a beast like Yaya Toure, but instead he's soft. He tends to disappear in big games - one game against Barca a few years ago has always stuck in my memory - and when put against difficult opposition he's never the player to make a difference or galvanize the team.

Simply put, does not live up to his full potential, and as a result will never be the "big time" player Arsenal could use.

But as I always say, I'm happy to be proven wrong if it means good things for AFC. Liverpool was a good game, so keep it up Abou.
