One thing about Cole though, on the face of it he had agreed to stay and then Arsenal pulled a fast one with his contract.

Although there are many candidates deserving of the award, I have some sympathy for the situations Cole and RVP found themselves in; think Wenger was forced to sell Ade (even though he did behave like a egotistical crunt) after the fans reaction. Therefore I voted Nasri because he left just 12 months after claiming that Arsenal were doing things the right way and should get more credit, while having a go at the likes of Man City for buying success.

Though I personally have no problem with either of them, there was a feeling at the time that Overmars had "Arranged" to go to Barcelona from the New Year's of his final season and that after that, he regularly pulled out of tackles.
Cannot be certain but reckon issues of fanzines of the time will mention this.

Petit I always thought was "thrown in" last minute with the Overmars deal and got a huge shock when he found out the clubs had agreed to do this, he had no desire to leave or any indication it was going to happen in the build up to the deal being made.

I don't buy into the RVP hatred at all,he was not only honest with the club but let them get on with their shopping without saying anything which meant we could get people in before it was known.

You have to factor in the element of relief that the slow-motion-looking fucker is finally gone, mate. When the sense of relief wears off a bit we can then settle into a nice period of dislike.
