Re: Hill Wood speaks again
Baba some of what you've taken as Hill-Woods comments were actually SteveO's comments after each Hill-Wood quote

Re: Hill Wood speaks again

Ooooh that old chestnut. 'Skillful selection of players'? Oooh is that how you will compete? Ok I see. Does he mean a skillful selection of players like let me seeee....
Ash Cole, Flamini, Edu, Gilberto Silva, Sam Nasri, Adebayor, Robin Van Pursestrings, Alex Song, Cesc Fabregas, Gael Clichy, Kolo Tourrr...
Oh hold on. I've just named a first 11 that would piss all over the current imposters in red kits I witness!
Or did he mean skillful players like the Girouds and Chamakhs that have replaced the rubbish like Van Persie and Henry?

That paper is useless. They don't even know that Drogba can not play for any EPL team this year. I do not know why he prefers this paper always.

This line cracks me up everytime.SteveO 35 wrote:Article in today's London Evening Standard
“Arsene has money to spend but there’s a limit. We can’t spend £50m on one player." - nobody's bloody asking you to dickhead. How about £15m or £20m on a defensive midfielder?
Gazidis said we won't spend 80M, so why don't they tell us how much they would spend on a player.
Soon someone will say we won't bankrupt the club by buying lionel messi..

Hill Wood's comments refuted
"Arsene has money to spend but there's a limit. We can't spend £50million on one player."
-Nobody is telling Wenger to spend 50m on one player. Only Chelsea and Madrid have spent such sums. Our record fee is around 15m. That's significantly lower than 50m and by todays standard is paltry. What we want is the option to spend 20-30m on players IF the right player comes along. Take the case of Xabi Alonso. We could of signed him in 2008 when Rafa was trying to flog him off for 20m but instead we heard Wenger talks about 'no resale value'. A year later he joins Madrid for 32m!
"At a certain level, we can't compete. I don't think [majority shareholder] Stan Kroenke is going to put the sort of dollars in that [Roman] Abramovich or Sheikh Mansour are putting into Chelsea or Manchester City. That's not the way he thinks clubs should be run."
No he hasn't invested a single penny into the club. Quite the opposite. The past 5 years we have had a net transfer spend of surplus 32m. In contrast Stoke have a deficit of 90m. Now i'm not suggesting we spend 90m every 5 years but clearly something is not right. We're Arsenal FFS!
"Luckily, Arsene understands that. He got an economics degree from Strasbourg University so he's certainly no fool. He knows how a club should be run. That annoys a lot of people but clubs have to be sustainable. We're not going to go bankrupt in the way one or two other well-known clubs have."
What's an economic degree got to do with this? He's the fucking FOOTBALL coach. Get it? He should be concerned with whats on the pitch. The chairman sorts the business out. Besides we have cash reserves of over 100m. Much of that you have fleeced from your club supporters whom I don't doubt you see as nothing more than consumers. But yes I guess Wenger has used his economics wisely like telling us we might get Benzema that just happened to coincide with ticket renewals.
Speaking of economics how does it make sense to let players roll down their contracts to the final year even when they actually want to extend their contract (Song). How does it make sense to pay crap like Denilson 50k a week and yet we lost Cashley Cole over 5k? Morons.
"The Glasgow Rangers example is something we've all got to guard against. They spent far more money than they could afford. We're ambitious enough but we're not going to end in the same plight as Rangers. That is a fact of life. So my advice is, don't get miserable about it."
In other words don't expect anything. Give us your fucking money and enjoy 4th place and who knows maybe we will even finish 3rd.
Last season saw Wenger come under more pressure than ever since he took charge 16 years ago, with some fans even heard to chant: "You don't know what you're doing".
You mean the season where:
1) Wenger sold Cesc Fabregas, Nasri and Clichy who we were sold on the promise that they would be the future of arsenal?
2) The season Wenger played our only fit left back, Santos, in a meaningless champions league game and yep you guessed it, he got injured.
3) The season where Wenger took off Oxlade Chamberlain even though he was our biggest threat, only to replace him with AA. We all know what happened immediately after. AA at fault for UTD beating us. Even RVP rolled his eyes at that substitution.
Yeah I wonder why people chanted that.
Hill-Wood said: "We have a pretty good chance of challenging for the Premiership. I don't see why we cannot win it this year."
insert copy and paste from last season.
and I just realized theres a thread for this already.....

Re: Hill Wood speaks again
What I don't understand is why Kroenke keeps this guy on ? Prior to his takeover he made it perfectly clear what he thought of Kroenke's unwanted advices and publically made himself look an arse. Since then he has been rude to the club's fans and driven a bigger wedge between us and the board. Gazidis at least performs the schmoozing role and has a proper hands-on executive role (however badly he is doing it).
So PHW isn't a large shareholder, doesn't carry any weight with the football authorities, alienates the fans........why is he here still ??

Re: USMANOV/KROENKE/DEIN/HILL-WOOD/THE BOARD
I think Hill-Wood sold his shares on condition he remained Chairman for life?
Have merged today's Hill-Wood threads with existing "Board" thread as they become a discussion of the board.

Re: BOARDROOM Thread: USMANOV/KROENKE/DEIN/HILL-WOOD etc.
When the Duffer that is Hillwood sold his shares to Dein ,who later then co-opted Fizbang, they were sold with the Caveat that he would remain Chairman for life so his position is unimpeachable .
It is Also wrong for people to say the Korenke hasn't invested anything into the club ,he has paid a shit load of money for control of the Club but holds about 62 percent of the shares for a massive 500 million or so !
To do this he has taken on loans so do not expect him to put anymore money into the club, more likely he will syphon some off !
