beer in europe - WTF???

It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

I know you can do a lot with only 4 ingredients Bg, but, the purity law created a certain tradition in germany, and that's hard to break.
Same with belgian beers, that are only now trying to adapt to modern trends of beer palate introducing their versions of IPA's, but they only do that because they export so much of their product.

100% this!

I love drinking its one of the few things I'm good at, lager bitter ales whatever I'll drink it. Also enjoy gin vodka whiskeys.... I could go on!

Single malt whiskey, now that is a serious drink. Think I might have a few tonight (now) 8)

it's the one thing i like to drink sometimes other than beer. we don't have many options here but glenfiddich tastes good to me - problem is that a bottle of the 12 yo. one costs over 80 pounds in here

and about beer, i like drinking some specific types of beers and tasting new ones, but obviously if the only option is a warm shitty lager then fuck it i'll drink it anyway

Favourite beers?:

Guinness
Tankhouse (Canada)
Golan Dark Malt (Israel)
Late Red - Shepherd Neame Brewery
Discovery - Fullers Brewery, Blonde Ale
Spitfire - Shepherd Neame Brewery, much better draught than from a bottle.
Liberty Ale - Hackney Brewery.

If you like English ale then Old Speckled Hen, Doom Bar and Fuller's are probably best.

I generally drink what I feel like, cider normally, like a Guinness on a cold day or a bottle of Estrella if it's hot.

As BournemouthRED says, single malt whiskey is nice as well. Scottish, Irish, even stuff like bourbon is good 8)

The microbrew/craft beer scene in London has exploded and ales, craft beers etc are proving very popular. You need to know where to head to be in the right sort of company though - where people fancy something more than cabbage-water Carlsberg.

Next time you're about in London, for interesting beers and people who will be drinking them, try:

The Black Heart, Camden Town
Camden Town Brewery, Kentish Town (under Kentish Town West station)
The Euston Tap, just outside the station
The Southampton Arms, Darmouth Park
Aces & Eights, Tufnell Park (sometimes... it varies)
The Lamb, Holloway Road
Craft Beer Co, Clerkenwell (although there is one opening in Brixton soon)
The Draft House, Fitzrovia (they have a number about the place though)
The Rake, The Borough
The Holborn Whippet, Holborn
The Jerusalem Tavern, Clerkenwell
The Dovetail, Clerkenwell
The Queens Head, St Pancras
The Bree Louise, Euston
The Wenlock Arms, Hoxton (very good pub but endangered)
The Pelt Trader, (opening in The City soon)

This whole craft beer, local ale thing is going global and London is no exception. There are a fair few others that I can't seem to remember at the moment - and some that I don't recommend! If I think of any others/frequent any others, I'll let you know.

I'd say that the Euston Tap is the best value for money. The Camden Town Brewery is a laugh though, especially since you can get the 4-pint jugs and sit in the sun. You also have the satisfaction of being able to see the brewery through a stable type door so you know the beer travels well since it only goes about 15 feet!
