SOUTHAMPTON HOME THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

We won easily against a team that gave city and utd some problems and we looked very solid again in defense ....
I'm happy for now but in February/March arrives ,when Injuries cost us and we have no back ups and we exit the race for the League get knocked out of the CL and have allready gone out of the FA Cup I will again be frustrated !

So basically you are saying that we would be mad to sign craig gordon but when things go tits up in the spring cos we have no back ups you will be pissed off ? :? What kind of logic or thought process are you using there ?
His logic would run your logic all over town.

What has Craig Gordon got to do with anything? He is hardly top class.

why did Lloris sign for Spurs though? The fact that their reserve keeper is now better than anything at Arsenal is embarrassing.

Giroud I also notice STILL hasn't scored. Walcott managed to so and he only had 1 minute longer on the pitch than the frenchman. Is he trying to be even worse than Chamakh?

I agree it did cross my mind that every AFC player out there played as if they really wanted to be our there. At halftime six subs warmed up but not Arshavin and I did not see him warm up during the second half.

In Walcott's defence he was an effect substitute and did actually score a tidy goal!

Well he came on with the game long dead and bagged a goal so can't criticise him for that, but I was more referring to his demands for £100k/w pointing towards his motivations.

Absolutely bizarre to think that Arshavin is still at the club and was in Saturday's squad, just don't see him offering anything for us this year. His crisis of confidence is hardly going to be remedied by not playing at all and the dearth of interested clubs in the transfer window.

as he is now the best player at the club that is the least that can be expected of him.
I imagine he was probably being rested for the big game of the week in France.

You are gonna have to explain that one for me - as I understand it he doesn't rate Gordon (as is his right) and he says that he is happy for now but will be pissed off in feb/march when(not if) things go tits up then cos a lack of cover but it will be too late to do anything about it then. We have a months transfer window in Jan but in the meantime can sign out of contract players if we deem them to be good enough and a few of us here think that Craig Gordon is and I will guarantee you that he won't be available to sign in march. That is where I question his logic.....there is no point moaning in march about a lack of cover cos you can do fcuk all about it so if you feel that there is a weakness somewhere then surely you correct it asap ? I fail to see how his logic on that point runs mine all over the town :?

Btw rigsby, nobody is saying that conceding 1 goal in 4 games is a tragedy or anything like it but what the vast majority of us are saying is that there should be real genuine competition for every place on the team as it will keep players on their toes and sadly chesney has no rivals cos the other two dodo's are fairly average tbh  I am not saying that his fcuk up on Saturday was down to that or whether it was due to his lack of sharpness but regardless it doesn't change the fact that he needs a real rival for that position

Augie, I think it was a mickey-take (by the way, how appropriate is that term considering their reputation for thieving? :rubchin:  ) of herd's persona for being a former 'fist-flinging hard-man' .
