Yeah, it was called The Mercantile Centenary trophy and we beat Manure 2-1. It was another one of those rubbish ones that filled up the gap left by those lovable, always innocent bin dippers and their day out at Heysel.Bradywasking wrote:Didn't Arsenal beat Man U in 1988 in a tournament final for teams that finished in "European Qualification " places ?. Final played on a Sunday at Villa Park. Another reminder of what Liverpool done to English football. The indoor tournaments were great , but can you imagine the moaning if players were asked to do it today?

Re: Bit of nostalgia
That was fantastic
Didn't know you lot called it "football six" or whatever. We just call it "indoor soccer" lol. Soccer is played indoors here as much as it is outdoors, so it was neat to see Arsenal players playing on the same dimensions of fields that I've played on. Makes you appreciate the skill that much more.
It's physically demanding. That turf chews up your ankles, calves and rips your skin apart on the slide tackles. It's pretty much played at full-speed nonstop, so it's based on interval bursts of energy rather than endurance. And it's not fun getting slammed into the boards when you're running full tilt by some wannabe Shawcross. Fun stuff though. Lots of touches on the ball, really works on your short passing game and your pass-and-move.

Nice footage, I've never seen that before. So if I'm not mistaking these 6-a-side tournaments were introduced when all English teams were banned from European competitions?
