AW Press Conferences

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

rigsby wrote:What manager tells the truth? Jesus the way you go on about it you would think Wenger is the only manager who has ever said shit to the press. What do you want him to say about any prospective new signing? 'Oh yeah we'll bring in an avaerage player'. Of course he's going to say they'll have to be top quality.

You wanted class players and he's signed some, just bloody wait. The overriding nonsense that is spouted sometimes, with people working themselves up over stuff that hasn't or might not happen is ridiculous.
When was the last time Fergie lied to Manure fans? He respects them enough to speak the truth. If he knows somthing is amiss, he keeps schtum. Top manager.

When was the last time Mourinho lied to fans of his clubs? Go on I dare you to name it. Answer: never at Chelsea and never at Madrid. If he cannot sign a player because the board are restricting him, he speaks the truth. The only 'lies' told are inconsequential ones like e.g. 'we don't expect Essien/Rooney to be fit for Saturday before said player turns up and smashes in a hat-trick'

What you don't get from them, is lies that a player IS returning, when they know he isn't. Meaning the fans are lied to about signings and the team is subsequently weaker.

I am laughing my arse off because some ppl are claiming Arsenal are stronger this year. Hilarious.
They're not. Arsenal are weaker this year, much weaker and any fool can see that apart from Arsenal-supporting fools.

No DCM.
No back up keeper still.
Our options inattack are frighteningly shit. Yu have a pair of 'class' strikers who look out of their depth, with Chamakh waiting in the wings.

ManYoo have 2 proven PL strikers.
Liverpool have 1.
Spuds hav 2.
Chelski have 2.
Aston Villa have 1.
Sunderland have 1.
Even Reading and Fulham have 1.

Arsenal do not have ONE striker that has proven he can score goals in this league, and it's absolutely shambolic.
People are waxing lyrical over Steve Bould already because Arsenal kept two clean sheets against 2 teams that offered absolutely nothing in attack and sat back, settling for a 0-0. Sunderland did not create a single attack in over 60 minutes. What is there to celebrate about that?

Arsenal are weaker, Wenger has actually done WORSE in this window than the previous one. He has not addressed the DCM, left back, right back, keeper, striker.
That's even more positions that need addressing than last summer!

Shocking incompetence

Well Baba certainly killed this thread...anyway

Wenger on TF1 "He [Diaby] has slight pain on the hip, on the sartorius muscle. 'It doesn't seem serious at all to me. He even has a small chance to play on Saturday."

just the 4 months out then?

Wilshere - "We need to manage him well. He needs a few games in the reserves. He's had ups and downs. He was focused, especially in the last three months. We have to be a bit cautious. When you're so young and you're out for 14 months, it's a good test for your mental strength"

WENGER BINGO BALL NUMBER 12 - MENTAL STRENGTH :barscarf:

He also wants to give Wilshere 10 days training before playing his first game.

City - "City game will tell us a lot about our quality and how we handle the big games. I expect them to be focused and play well. If we're at our best, we have a good chance to get a great result."

WENGER BINGO BALL 8 - QUALITY :barscarf:

"The championship is very tight. This game could have a big influence on both teams."

Frimpong: "He's a bit in front of Jack in match fitness. He could play tonight for the reserves"

"I have no doubts about the desire and hunger of my squad. We are quite strong but there is room for improvement. I believe we are a very ambitious club. We always have a great desire to win."

on Giroud: "I'm very happy with his attitude and his commitment. I'm absolutely convinced he will be successful"

on Mannone: "This is a good opportunity for him to show the quality that I know he has"

on Wilshere: "I always thought he would come back. I believe what he's gone through will make him even stronger"

Not defending Sith Lord Venger here, but I have to pull you on the Fergie bit, Baba. He has lied and hidden the truth about players as much as any manager to his fans.

He tried to cover up kicking a boot into Beckhams face. He lied (to varying degrees) about his relationship with McGrath, van Longface, Strachan, Ince, Heinze and Yorke, resulting all of those players being “moved on” under a cloud. He also continuously backed up Roy Keane’s lies about being injured and not playing for Oireland in shit friendlies on a Wednesday night and then suddenly miraculously “improving” and turning out for Manure on the Saturday afternoon.

Ferguson is a great manager, but to put him up on some pedestal as the only honest manager is going too far.
