Yes, of course, but we had a ready made replacement and the best CDM around in Diarra but of course Lord Wenger knew best and let all three leave before recruiting Ramsey for the entire proceeds he received for the lot of themQuartzGooner wrote:In 2008 I made this thread, "What happens when Gilberto and Flamini Leave?"

All I learnt from that thread is that you used to shout peoples names.QuartzGooner wrote:In 2008 I made this thread, "What happens when Gilberto and Flamini Leave?"

Hello QUARTZGOONER

I told a lot of people Kos would come good and he did. Yeah he's off form at the moment but he is a very good defender.

Hello QUARTZGOONER![]()

Also we see a comment from Rebel where he is not happy with the idea Djourou can be used as a defensive midfielder; four and half years on and that idea is still floating about.

Really? Fifty members contacted you about him?
He can piss me off, or I choose to ignore him. Simples

See what I posted on the Arse memorabilia thread. I might get banned now.
Chuckle.

Amongst other things.
Told everyone that would listen and even some who wouldn't, after his first season that Pires would be player of the season the next year.
I was on here saying Van Persie was one of the top 5 strikers in world football about 4 years ago.
And in honor of the thread starter, this ones for you Steveo, Vermaelen is/was vastly over rated.
And here's a new one. Cazorla, whilst a cream above most of the crap we have, will begin to wilt some point after Christmas.

I had a feeling you'd bring this one up mate !Number 5 wrote:Amongst other things.

Your point about Cazorla is a good cautionary note though. We all remember Hleb and Nasri looking good for a month or two before the rigours of the PL saw them reduced to passengers in the winter

As long as Wilshere is back playing full pelt by then, it won't have a massive impact. On what I don't know, the battle for fourth? Probably.
But if both ain't dominating games we'll be going down the league quicker than than the wife goes down on me on my birthday.

That last sentence. If you have a leap year birthday, do you need a stand in?

Exactly, if you're trying to compare Bergkamp and Giroud only one will come out favourably. Don't get me wrong, I badly want him to succeed. Primarily because it will benefit AFC, but also because I like him: he works fucking hard, doesn't give up, puts it around and every chance he misses is a column inch dedicated to RvP. But Dennis he ain't. That's not to say he won't necessarily adapt or improve and become an important player for us, but it's a completely difference kettle of fish because frankly you could smell the class off Bergkamp as soon as he stepped off the plane at Heathrow to come and sign. Feel privileged to have watched such a genius.SteveO 35 wrote:I've tried making this point about Giroud. With all due respect to our extremely handsome Frenchman, Dennis Bergkamp was an absolute class act when he came to AFC. Regardless of struggling in their first month or two in English football, to compare a player of Bergkamp's unquestionably permanent class to Giroud, who can best be described as a real handful and a grafter who is extremely rough around the edges is absurd. Like saying "Ian Wright was nearly 22 when he was spotted by Palace so there's still every chance of Eastmond becoming an AFC legend".

Re: The "I told you so" thread
I swore up and down that Arteta was the key component of our midfield last year, and that Song was getting far too much praise for performances that were only a result of Arteta filling in for his defensive lapses.
Song gone, Arteta is actually put on the team sheet in the defensive role he's pretty much been playing since last year, and now he's finally getting the credit he deserves.
