Re: Shammers v Arsenal match thread
Giroud proved that we need to play with a striker (even if it's not Giroud). Thought he had a good game today, Mert and Santi were outstanding. Theo scored from a chance that Gervinho , on his performance today , would have missed. I accept he has scored five goals but there are better options. Jenk had a decent game, keeper had a few scares, hope Gibbs injury is just enough to get him a rest. God that lad doesn't need another run of injuries.
Can not understand why Diame didn't get a second yellow. Will the media highlight the dives by Nolan and Noble in the first half ? Doubt it. Overall it was a good win, bit dodgy at times but there is a strength and unity in this squad that is heartwarming. For the weekend and the opponents that was in it , raise a glass and a thought for the Bear and John Dickinson tonight.

They scored with not only their first shot, basically their first time in our box. All they done was hoof balled it (expected from a fat sam team). They defended our corners well though can't believe we had 16 and weren't very close to making one count. But we dominated the whole game, they weren't even going for it at the end, just letting us toy with themLDB wrote:It kind of didSurreyGooner wrote:According to their fans 3-1 flattered us![]()

In fairness to most of them , they are castigating Vaz Te for leaving his foot in on Mannone and deserved his injury

Look earlier in this thread, and also in "Five years ago" thread.manninger wrote: John Dickinson and the bear...i dont know the story about them
John Dickinson was a friend of Herd who was stabbed to death outside an Arsenal vs West Ham match in 1982.
The Bear was Denton/Dainton, an Arsenal fan who died five years ago in a car crash. He was one of our main leaders on the terraces in the 80's and fought racists outside the ground.

Dominated the whole game? Between half time and Walcott's goal they were all over us I thought. Even when we were playing well we still looked vulnerable as they were winning pretty much every high ball in our half. If Nolan had brought his shooting boots it could have been a very different game.SurreyGooner wrote:They scored with not only their first shot, basically their first time in our box. All things considered we were the better side and deserved our win but the two-goal cushion away from home doesn't quite give the full picture so I can see where the spammers are coming from with that one. They played well, we were just better

Re: Shammers v Arsenal match thread
The 2nd goal killed West Ham up until then it was an even game.Yes we had lots of possession(when dont we?) but Nolan missed a hat-trick of chances and Mannone got away with being outjumped by Carroll.

I thought it was a pretty even game in the first half, but we showed more class and played well as a team, and that's what I like of late, The Arsenal seem to be playing as a team!
Good result today, 3 points! And something more to build on!

Yes we had a delightful evening repas in the East Ham Working Mens Club...£2.60 a pint of Carlsberg....the only downer was that Nathans pie mash shop was shut when we left the club at 9.00 PMMetalheadz Gooner wrote:just home, lovely day in the east end.![]()
Santi was worth the ticket price alone.

Re: Shammers v Arsenal match thread
Some quite interesting views on Knees Up Mother Brown forum, to be fair people on there condemning the usual morons who chant rubbish about Wenger being a paedo. Some idiots who were talking about "a meet" after the game and the Arsenal fans allegedly being silent until Feo scored (didn't sound like that on TV).
Most of them seemed extremely pleased with West Ham today and were very happy in defeat. Have to say I'm surprised because I can only ever remember having one or two comfortable victories at Upton Park, and with Carroll up top surely the very least they expected was to be competitive and make it difficult for us? In my opinion they let us play too much and although Nolan was profligate for most of the game they were thoroughly outplayed. We were the superior team in a solid performance without clicking until the last 20 minutes. Saying that the interchange we have in the middle of the park is phenomenal, for the first time since we moved I feel like we have that counter-attacking ability back. Arteta and Cazorla were class (as per) and just take players out the game with their unbelievable speed and quality of passing. I thought Ramsey did well in there too: not a huge threat going forward but generally worked hard, kept the tempo in attack and protected the ball more in possession I thought.
Today was exactly Feo's kind of day: tiring team that decided to play a high line. Looked like he had a point to prove, if he fancied it this much every week he'd be a very useful player.
Always a valuable and satisfying 3 points at Upton Park, puts us on a high going into the feckin international break.

Merts was immense, Arteta n Cazorla pure class, Ramsey really shone, Podolski fuckin grafter. Dominated the
midfield and had this lot chasing shadows for large parts of the game but to be fair they held their own and really
put us to the test on a few occasions which makes the victory all the more satisfying as the points were never a
certainty until the little fellas absolute peach of a strike.
Quite pleased that I don't have to listen to any shit talk spouting from the mouth of these loud lairy
"pwoper nawty salt of the earth" East end/Essex chaps until boxing day.

Just watched the Vaz Te/Mannone incident again and it was fucking cowardly, exactly how Cech suffered a fractured skull. Nice to see Big Sam has coached his values into the players.
