never say never - Tets stats in his first season at Arsenal were awesome, he's been even better this year
Jack Wilshere is the best English player since Gazza, I think he can be even better
SantiCazorla has exploded into the league IMO player of the season so far (yes I know, not yet 10 games)
those three could combine into a technically awesome ball retaining , no header winning Barcelonaesque midfield

Ox has huge potential, I absolutely can see him being a world beater

only Lahm can compete with Sagna as best RB in the world
Kos showed with his quality last season (and that Barcelona game at the Grove) he can live with the very best
Verminator and Mertesacker have swapped form but they're both capable to top level performances

it's ifs buts and maybes - but thats the case with all our rivals when you consider injuries and form
I expect top level performances from all the players above

the stretch is in goal and up front, Szcz and Giroud can do it
but I speak in hope more than expectation

Mikel Arteta - I think everyone agrees has been a great success in his first season and a bit with us.

But......... Wenger was absolutely prepared to miss out on him. Remember that shambolic transfer window?
Arteta only came to us because he himself decided to take the bull by the horns while time was running out and forced Moyes into letting him go and decided to take a wage cut on a longer deal.

I shudder to think what would have happened if Arteta had not have been pro-active and allowed Wenger to let him slide.

I do think Wenger deserves credit for playing Arteta deep though. He'd really been a creative more attack minded mid with the toffees but has excelled in the deeper role Wenger has played him. :D

this board has some classics - Baba criticised Wenger for 'nearly' signing Kalou
now armchair's criticising leProf for 'nearly' not signing Arteta

as you all know I think Wenger is an excellent manager
but, like all excellent managers, he's done plenty of real actual things wrong.
There's no need to make things up to criticise him about

Its true though.
LeDick was absolutely prepared to let the Arteta deal fail. If it hadn't been for Artetas desire to better himself and play CL fottie, his willingness to take a pay cut we'd be without him and relying on ..........Diaby.

Just wonder how many others have slipped through the net due to LeDicks accountancy brief userping his football managesr job? :rubchin:
This is probably the reason we are now left with the "dead-wood" we cant sell.

Oh well Arsene knows eh?

Arteta is the player with the most successful pass rate in Europe in the last year.
To think what we may have been like without him is worrying. The fact that he took a £10k p/w paycut? says it all about a player who desires to play week in, week out. Yet, Wenger is happy to offer better contracts to players with more to prove than Arteta.

Well every cloud has a silver lining.....Arteta Cazorla and Wilshere together will be poetry in motion. Im not fussed with the defense either. My worries are with the striking positions and thats where my only gripe with the club is (apart from ticket prices) but seriously, we are seriously short and losing a 30+ goals man then going for a completely unknown entity in terms of top league experience in Giroud. I really want him to do well and im right behind him but our intent and ambition would have been realised if we had stumped up the cash available for a recognised striker for around 25-30m..... we can only dream

Looks like he does have approx 35m to spend in Jan. I do think that is a reasonable assumption bearning in mind the proft the club made.

For me the issue IS the goalscoring one - just don't see where the 25 - 30 goals per season is going to come from.
Falcao will be out of our range - that is fair enough, but there must be SOMEONE out there who is capableo f doing the job.

My worry? - he who knows best, i.e AW, WON'T SPEND A F*****G PENNY. That, ladies and gentlemen, would be nothing short of criminal. Time will tell.

And if you believe the papers we came close to signing Dudek, Carrick, Reo-Coker and Remy too.
They also reckon Alonso, though I always heard that deal was more complex than has been revealed.
