THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Isn't that supposed to count as 2 trophies these days? :D

my mistake 2 trophies :D -

I think the metaphorical one is the minimum for him to not be binned
and an actual one is the minimum for Wenger to chose to extend his career

I don't think the club or 80% of the fans will allow the situation to develop beyond next Summer, so he needs only to achieve the 4th placed trophy this season and I think we'll see the contract extension signed at the end of the season. I don't think Kroenke and Gazidis will allow next season to start without Wenger's position having been sorted out.

We should celebrate the signing of the contract extension with further Arsenalisation of the stadium. Now we've officially won the 'fifth trophy' every season since 2006 we should fill in the blank corner of the stadium after the 2005 FA Cup to celebrate the achievement

Why's that? The last contract extension was signed on the back of a 3-4 year trophyless run. Given that he can't really be arsed with the domestic cups anyway, I think only a failure to finish top 4 would make him consider otherwise (and even then no guarantee he'd walk away)

he said something in an interview...
I now can't remember exactly what it was (presumably on'telly or ArseTVonline)
but I inferred from it he felt he needed a trophy to carry in

And yet he's so dismissive of the cups? Just doesn't add up.

I hope we remain trophyless if that's what's gonna take for this muppet to finally fuck off.

I never understand those kind of comments

Winning the Beer Cup would mean fuck all to me, and that's the only cup Wenger has any chance of winning.

Him signing a new contract on the back of a Beer Cup truimph would be sickening.

I thought the Cups were now insurance and debt...?
the beer cups been fizzy pop and milk but its credit cards now

league cup + CL place with no real title challenge is a fail IMO
our post league cup fail v Brum collapse was shameful - but we were in the league title chase till March

Yeah possibly, but I thought DB10's point before that was talking about us in the context of the quality of teams we face in the CL & then BDB responded by talking about teams lower down in the PL, which to me looks/looked like changing the goalposts slightly (not necessarily intentionally) to say hey look there's always someone worse off, we can't be that bad. I mean, judged in the relative context of every player in every division of the football pyramid (and women's amputee pub football) Gervinho's almost not totally and utter shite. But he really is though.

Either way I'd agree we're above average (whatever that's worth) in premier league terms but average as far as champions league quality. 8)
Exactly. 8)

Obviously we are above average in the PL, thusly we finish in the top 5 or 6 places. But in the CL, once the shit 3rd and 4th place teams from France/Germany/Holland/Ukraine etc are out we are exposed as very average.

IN THE CL.
