Have you ever left early?
Have you ever left early?
I see there's the odd confession about leaving last night's game early - no real shame in that in my book. Its your money and your choice. Amazing though how nearly everybody will come on here and say that they never have left early - well someone bloody is because win, lose or draw the Grove has got about 10,000 empty seats a few minutes before the end of every game !
I must admit I've never understood the ten minute stampede before the end especially when the game is evenly poised and you've spent £60+ on a ticket. If it really is that important to get that earlier train why bother going at all? I do know a fella that makes a long journey who needs to get away from midweek games a bit sharpish to ensure he gets the last train, but that's slightly different and I'm sure the minority of cases (especially when you see it happening on a Saturday afternoon)
I've left early twice ever. The first time was Wenger's famous 'caviar and sausages' outburst when we were 0-3 down at home to Middlesbrough with the two comedy own goals. I made the mistake of taking the ex-wife along and it was moan, moan, moan (yep worse than me !) and at 0-3 I just thought whats the fucking point and got up and left. From memory we pulled one back after I left.
My only really individual hissy fit was when we were 5-1 down at half time at Old Trafford. I was sat within spitting distance of the Mancs when Stepanovs and Luzhny were doing their disappearing act and Yorke, Keane and Teddy Wanker were pissing all over us. I'll admit it now, I just couldn't stand there taking that shit from the Mancs any longer so fucked off as soon as the half time whistle blew. We lost 6-1 in the end.
How about you lot ?

Re: Have you ever left early?
Simpy put, never. I dont see the point, you paid for the 90 minutes, may aswell use it.
Re: Have you ever left early?
never. but then again have never been to a game where we got hammered .
Re: Have you ever left early?
I've left early.
Most noteably the 7-1 against Blackburn when I missed TH14's goal.

Never have and never will, unless I absolutely have to. It's a lot of money so what's the point to not stay to the end, don't get it. As last night proved, anything can happen.
Re: Have you ever left early?
After the 7th at OT last season, its the only time.
Obviously we couldn't pull it back, I was fucking fuming & cutting it mighty close to missing my train.

Re: Have you ever left early?
I once left early because my mate was caught smoking on the stairs at half time by a steward.
I was smoking too but had seen the steward a nano second before my mate so I flicked my ciggies away and before I could warn my mate, he was spotted and was asked to leave on the spot, and so I chose to follow him as I figured one would always stick with a mate through thick and thin.
Does that count ?

Re: Have you ever left early?
I left a friday night match at Roots Hall (Southend) at half time, they were 4-0 down and there was a Beatles film on the telly, so my mate and I decided to leave and had to scale a 8ft gate to climb out of the ground
They still lost 4-0.

They still lost 4-0.

Slavia Prague home I left when we scored our seventh, I don't really know why to this day.
And United in the FA Cup when we lost two-nil. My mate paid for my train ticket, match ticket and food for the day, so he said 92 minutes in 'Let's go, I don't want to miss our train' I couldn't really say anything.

Re: Have you ever left early?
I've only ever left early once and funny enough it was just last week in the 86th minute when Shalke scored
their 2nd. We were so awful I couldn't suffer anymore, got to the motor and found a nice little present from
Islington council attached to windscreen..
great night!
Noticed a few on the telly slipping off at 4-0 last night..how fucking GUTTED are you?? Remember last season
V Newcastle bods ducking out on 89 mins and TV5 snatches it in injury time.. Serves you fucking right..Divs!
I can understand the ones who've gotta long train journey home or have got little ones with em at night, but when
the game is hung in the balance like that...I just don't get it.

Re: Have you ever left early?
Only twice
Man Utd in the FA Cup in 2008 when we were 4-0 down at half time, left 5 minutes before the end to get an earlier train back to London. And the same year when we lost 5-1 to S***s, missed their 5th goal and wanted to ensure I wasn't caught up in the party that would have been happening on the Seven Sisters Road.
I almost did it last night, due that I'd driven to Reading straight from work and was parked in the busiest car park and was up early the next day for work. I was walking down the stairs to exit when we got a corner and Koscielny scored...took my seat again and so happy I didn't leave slightly earlier!

Three times.
Twice in the 80's to get the tube when losing, both times missed goals so said never again.
The other time was 2004? when I was supposed to be at work but went to the game, they had an emergency and phoned me, called me in on pain of losing my job but I saw a few goals.

Re: Have you ever left early?
i'm sure i've left early once but can't think when. think it may have been a carling cup game a few seasons back.
EDIT: just remember it was! carling cup v wigan when it snowed, took the mrs and she complained how freezing she was all game long and after 80 minutes it was just too much. learned my lesson that night
can i just say - do people differentiate between leaving games when the scoreline is an extremity and the game is done, e.g. losing 6-1 with 10 to go, winning 7-0 with 15 to go, and leaving - compared with leaving when you're 0-2 down with 15 minutes to go?
in my book one is worse than the other because you can always pull back a 2 goal deficit and the team needs the support. just my tuppence.
