Lets not confuse these 2 things that have fuck all to do with each other

Winning the League Cup will have no bearing on Wenger's contract extension - he's here for at least another 3 or 4 years anyway, courtesy of winning the Virtual Trophy every season since 2006. So lets just win a real trophy.

For the long term good AW has to go and a LC win might delay that.

I wonder if we win the cup and finish out of top 4 would Stank be unhappy enough(if we finished well out of the top four) to let the master tactician go

Get rid of Wenger......ALL DAY LONG.

As I said on another thread yesterday it is my raison d'etre in life right now. Also I disagree with others who state that Wenger will be given a contract extension by the American fuck wits regardless of whether he wins a real trophy or not. Ivan did say that ultimately it will be the fans that decide Turnip's future and by the time May 2014 comes round even the most ardent window licker will have had enough. There are a lot of shit days to come believe me.

However winning this meaningless cup (which won't happen anyway, choking fuckers) would vindicate the yanks decision to renew his contract as they could spin some bullshit about us being on the cusp of bigger things

Do people genuinely believe that winning the League Cup - a trophy openly stated as the club's 5th priority and carrying prize money of around £1m will have any bearing on the Self Harmer's new contract.

Kroenke will keep Wenger based on how he performs on one criteria - making money for his business model. Sell our best players every Summer for a profit and win the Virtual Trophy and Wenger will have a job for as long as he wants it -that is proven. The club already don't give two fucks about the FA Cup or the League Cup and openly show their lack of respect towards them, so winning either of them will count for nothing. As a fan however its all that matters to me.

Until Wenger fails to make a profit or Kroenke sells up then we're stuck with him regardless so I'd rather win something than nothing every day of the week

It's not a one or the other decision. Why would the board not offer him a new contract while he continues to deliver financial stability? And we know he won't walk away while we continue to win the Virtual Trophy year after year and fan discontent is still relatively contained.

As SteveO said the domestic cups mean fuck all to those in charge, because the LC especially is not a cash cow of any sort. It won't make any difference as to whether he stays longer (which I don't doubt he will) and it would make a nice change to actually win something.

Of course winning the c1 cup would increase wengers chances of getting ''an extension.
It would be lauded as a vindication of Wengers management, transfer policies etc.
and the club would be now ' moving forward.'

'Look - Wenger has delivered us 'silverware and continuous CL qualification. We are a success'

Maybe Wenger will be offered an extension anyway regardless, but winning this trophy that he himself has devalued only gives the board another reason to keep the same 'model' with 'success' on the pitch as well as 'success' on the balance sheet.

Winning this would only delay change not hasten it

I don't think it will make a difference Armchair because even Spinmaster Gazidis would struggle to really make a success story out of winning a cup that Wenger has denounced as the 5th most important out of 4 actual trophies and one that we have shown nothing but contempt for in his entire reign. Those responsible for the decision to renew or not are interested in the business and not League Cup trophies.

I think a more appropriate question would be Top 4 or Wenger Out? Because failure to finish top 4 is the only thing that will really make Wenger consider his position.

When you have the manager say the league cup is 5th priority for the club, how the fuck will a player get motivated for a game tht the manager couldnt be bothered about,in other words this is a shit cup but i want you to play in this shit game anyway, theres nothing but a loser mentality at the club and no doubt later somewhere on this forum the usual suspect(s)will be on saying its not wengers fault. :banghead:

We are continuously reminded that 'top four' is success, Our new stadium is success, our self sustaining model is success.
Make no mistake - winning this 'actual trophy' would be used to vindicate the whole rotten lot.
Was at anfield last season when stevie gerard came out whith the CC. He looked almost embarrased.

I can forsee an open top bus parade if we win it

Imo the board don't really need to justify Wenger's role because the fact is the vast majority of fans are still convinced he's working wonders by getting us 4th place. Sad but true. They might give it a lot of chat about it being a platform for success or whatever but they don't need it whilst we're finishing top 4. It will only be when we fail to finish top 4 that the fans at large might actually start to question Wenger and the combination of that and the financial implications might make the board rethink their position.

He will continue to be lauded by fans and the board alike and be given a contract for life while we're finishing top 4. League Cup win or not.

Whether they 'need it' or not doesnt matter. They'll use it and it will stave off the media fora while who this season and last season have started to wise up to the whole lie. The AKB will love it and use it to justify their faith in Wenger.

I never thought I'd ever hear myself say it but winning this getr a lovely short term buzz and a great day out but not good for our long term chances of being amongst 'europes elite' once again.

So short term high for us but a ticket to lengthen the slow agonising malaise for Wenger and the gang.
