Re: Glasgow Rangers
The thing about Celtic is that many people in Ireland say they support Celtic but in reality its more of a 'fuck the brits' mentality then actually being passionate about the club etc. Most people in Ireland support United or Liverpool so im not sure you can say that Celtic has a fanbase so to speak in Ireland and im not sure how that translate to the Irish is the US. Australia etc. but i suppose it depends on how you define a fanbase.

Firstly I apologise for misunderstanding but secondly I wasnt taking offence anyway if you were suggesting that the catholic religion is a minority relegion - religion isnt that important to me that your statement bothered me and your post above reads to me that you are trying to defend yourself (though I could be reading that wrong too

There's a joke in there somewhere about Catholicism and minors but no matter how hard I look for it I keep coming up short.augie wrote:the playing mantis wrote:swl got it. augie, please re read my post. i state in countries where catholics are in the minority, and in countries where they are the majority they dont cling on to the celtic link.![]()

My question re it being a minority religion was a genuine "is it" cos my knowledge of whether it is a minority or majority religion is zero

Re: Glasgow Rangers
Man U & probably Mickeys have more support in Ireland than Celtic who just have the majority support in Ulster both sides of the border along with their cohorts in crime Rangers.
Donegal is strong Celtic, probably the most percentage in any one Irish county of any British club?
Mayo, Galway, Sligo & nearby counties have more Arsenal than Scouse & Mancs according to relatives & friends I know, probably due to North London Irish connection. Know a few Irish who have changed from Mancs to Arsenal after arriving & some with season tickets
Dublin strong Mancs & Mickeys for decades, Cork strong Mancs.

75% of London Irish come from seven western counties, a recent survey claimed. Mayo, Galway, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipp, & Sligo, most of these have strong Arsenal support.

Re: Glasgow Rangers
No - Dublin has had strong Mouser support and strong Arsenal since the 70's (Mousers because of bandwagon jumpers + Oirish links and Arsenal because of Chippy/O'Leary/Staplecunt) but only really strong Manc since the 90's and mostly glory hunting bandwagon jumpers never been to a game. The mancfilth had reasonably "good" support before that true but not near as big as Mousers or Arsenal. Now they far outnumbered both Mousers and Arsenal sadly...Almunia is a clown wrote:Man U & probably Mickeys have more support in Ireland than Celtic who just have the majority support in Ulster both sides of the border along with their cohorts in crime Rangers.![]()

Re: Glasgow Rangers
I, like many I guess, have a natural leaning towards Celtic on religious grounds. But although sectarianism isn't as strong on merseyside, I always thought that Liverpool were the proddies and Everton the catholics? So possibly a surprise that Liverpool have overcome this disadvantage in terms of the support they receive from Ireland? Maybe an example of what numerous league titles and European cups can achieve!DB10GOONER wrote:No - Dublin has had strong Mouser support and strong Arsenal since the 70's (Mousers because of bandwagon jumpers + Oirish links and Arsenal because of Chippy/O'Leary/Staplecunt) but only really strong Manc since the 90's and mostly glory hunting bandwagon jumpers never been to a game. Re: Glasgow Rangers
Liverpool were the Manure of the 70's in Oireland, MK. So many bandwagon jumpers and their kids supported them because they were successful, but in fairness that support grew and grew and they have a HUGE loyal following here that go to games. Whereas the vast majority of Manure Filth "fans" are still just Monday morning workplace bullshitters that don't go and never have gone to games.MK Gould wrote:I, like many I guess, have a natural leaning towards Celtic on religious grounds. Majority of genuine Oirish people don't give a flying fuck about the religion associated with a club. Most of us have had our fill of sectarianism and mindless hatred/violence based on what is basically the same fucking religion!

Re: Glasgow Rangers
United had a strong support in Dublin because of Liam Whelan dying in the Munich tragedy but as DB10 says in the 70's and 80's Liverpool took over based on success. I always like to believe that while Arsenal have a smaller fan base in Dublin than Victims or Manure our fan base is much more genuine. A simple test I often use to mouthy Manure/ Victim fans is ask "who are you playing this weekend ?"" you would (or maybe not) be amazed with the vacant faces that meet that question. There is still a bit of Leeds support flying around, mostly comes out for the big days like Manure in the Cup a few years back.
The Celtic thing pisses me off, As I said on another thread they have decent genuine support all over Ireland, but the muppets that follow them because they are allegedly Catholic or Irish are stupid
, nearly as bad as those who claim to be Manure, Victims and even Gooners that also support Celtic.
The thread is about Rangers. Can't see them moving to England, think it's a bit of mouthing by them to say "we don't care if the SPL don't want us, the EPL do " Not really going to happen.

Re: Glasgow Rangers
I was always under the impression that Mancs had decent support in Ireland since the Munich disaster, same as in London & other faraway places?
Seems that most of the them are Premier League JCL's then?
