I think this will either make or break European football. The Europa League is seen as a hinderence by English clubs and the Champions League is already bloated and boring until the knock out stages.

A reformat is definitely required but I'm not convinced this is the way forward. Less would be more but UEFA only want to make more money.

UEFA shouldn't have changed anything as the European,CWC and UEFA cup were to us mere mortals prestigious back in the day before money reared it's ugly head but as always greed ruins it all.

a champions league only for the clubs who won their country, and a cup for the clubs who won the major cup in their country. it's a simple idea, it makes more sense, and it actually rewards the club who went on to WIN things. perfect.

however, it would make UEFA a lot less money and remove our only annual trophy, so never gonna happen.

The combined wet dream of Wenger and HighburyJD - the extension of the Virtual Trophy to 7th place and an opportunity to accumulate even more air miles. Perhaps we can extend the exciting group stage over six months now.

Lets take a bloated competition and double its size.

I take some solace in the fact that UEFA is an organisation less out of touch and more filled with corporate bureaucrat wankers than Arsenal FC.

No part of this is a good idea, other than the money it'll bring them in. The CL should be reduced, not expanded. The competition is pointless until February anyway, and there are always at least 24 teams with no hope of winning so why make that 56???

Agree with the above post that the European Cup, UEFA Cup and CWC format worked. They held 3 tournaments that all clubs involved really wanted to win. Instead, they now have one mickey mouse tournament and one bloated mess.

I know what you mean but I just think it would completely make a mug of anybody who persists in suggesting that qualifying for the competition alone is a brilliant achievement when you look at the clubs that would have been (and will be ) involved. Also it means we'll be playing against even more dross in the opening stages so we won't even get the potential decent tie against 2nd seeds making up 1/3 of our group games. Instead our annual pointless excursion to Athens will be the highlight of the competition.

I so hope this doesn't happen. The European Cup as some have mentioned, is what it was and should be imo. That's never going to happen so sticking with what we have is my choice.
