Theo's Decision Making Demonstrated

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Theo's Decision Making Demonstrated

Post by Barriecuda »

I was furious when I saw this during the game yesterday. If anyone cares to explain (if that's at all possible) please elaborate...

hmm... never really picked up on that properly yesterday. Does seem odd :? maybe Theo knew Gervinho wouldn't look up to pass anyway?

This. He doesn't have a footballing brain, can't see the space or where the ball should be played into. Like a lot of our players.

He was already lining up in a central position to defend the inevitable goal kick that follows every time that waster gets the ball out wide

Theo could have run where you suggested Barrie.

Or

Do not discount what he knows about how Gervinho plays, and what has been done in training.
He probably reckoned Gervinho would cross the ball, so it made sense for two players to be in the middle to give Gervinho more chance of finding a teammate with the ball, rather than just Giroud on his own against all the Everton defenders.
If Theo had kept running in a straight line, he may well have got the ball from Gervinho, only to be in a wide angle and have to cross it himself, which would be a waste of a run.

But hey, I have never worked even half a day in football, so what do I know!

If he had gone near post he would have dragged the last man with him freeing up Giroud to pick his spot .
We see this time and again every game so I'm surprised it hasn't been picked up before.
We haven't had a runner since Freddie that knew instinctively where to go Theo like Gervhino is a headless chicken and whilst his finishing has improved he's not a natural predator .

Agree he's not the brightest but "at the time the cross was delivered..." - he got tackled mate.

Not sure it matters, he'll be sold next month.

Agreed. Huntelaar will replace him.

I doubt it and even if he did, our clueless senile old fart would play him as a winger.

Think it 99% that Walcott will stay until end of season, neither player nor club has anything to gain by leaving in January, and actually think he will stay if deal can be agreed.
