When was the last time AW signed somebody world class??
and somebody who was an unknown/ wengerish type signing?
Back in his day he signed the likes of Henry, Viera, Ljungberg, Campbell, Pires, Fabregas, RVP
But all of those transfers were pre 2005. The only player who I felt was an unknown and world class signing since has been Sagna. Apart from that it's been mediocre.
Rosicky- poor
Hleb-poor (had 1 good season)
Reyes-poor
I could go on. It's like a completely different Wenger. There's no way the Wenger of 05 would have signed headless chicken Gervinho. The no funds excuse is poor aswell. 11m for Gervinho yet Newcastle got Demba Ba for nothing and Swansea, Mich for 2m.

Cazorla a few months ago. And on the cheap!!!When was the last time AW signed somebody world class??

You're right, mate - maybe we are being harsh on Wenger. This can be the pro-Wenger thread sponsored by spendsum4uckingmoney

Re: When was the last time AW signed somebody world class??
it could be argued that arshavin and podolski were "world class signings"

I think we have different definitions of world class. Cazorla is a good player. World class? No. Far too inconsistent IMO.

Before le CIC got his hands on them, played them out of position in a system that isnt working and turned them into the type of plodders that are 10 a penny in the lower leagues

All joking aside, I am sure the likes of cazorla and podolski must be absolutely gobsmacked when they realise what little tactical acumen wenger has - wenger's rep suggests a man that is at the pinnacle of coaching and game planning but the reality is completely different

it's sad when you wonder what kind of form fergie might've got out of arshavin. can't believe he didn't even make the bench today!augie wrote:nexum5me wrote:it could be argued that arshavin and podolski were "world class signings"

I was going to say him also, but I wonder how long it'll take for Wenger to coach all the abilty that he has out of him? and then to piss him off by eventually playing him out of position and surrounding him with shit players?g88ner wrote:Cazorla a few months ago. Not sure either Arshavin or Poldolski would be considered 'World Class' - whilst Cazorla has the ability but hasn't quite crossed that threshold yet in terms of consistent performances. What has disappointed me the most about Poldoski - especially given his age and considerable experience - is just how many touches it takes him to get the ball under proper control.
Although a much better player, sometimes he seems just as cumbersome as the 'Enormous Foreheaded One' does.

i think he could be in a decent team with tactics - put him along side Cesc and Jack and Sneijder or Ronaldo.spendsum4uckingmoney wrote:I think we have different definitions of world class. Cazorla is a good player. World class? No. Far too inconsistent IMO.
