Where's the optimists? Is 3rd Progress?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Where's the optimists? Is 3rd Progress?

Post by Cockerill's chin »

Come on, all those giving it about what the hell do the fans know, trust in AW and all will be answered. How much pressure did we put on Cudicini? Difference between the two teams was about £50 million.

Difference between the title and 3rd - about the same. But we don't do that do we? We're too intelligent to get involved with cash.

Same old thread, but it it is the crux of our problem.

Hopefully Arsene will see his error and strengthen our team in the summer.

I wouldn't bet on it Khalid, he has already come out and said no more strikers will join in the summer. Arsene will just have to look at pushing through Luke Freeman.

But that is the crucial point. A lot of us were begging him to sign a decent centre back and a goal scoring winger LAST AUGUST.

It was OBVIOUS we needed them. But Wenger insisted otherwise and bouyed by the 'overperformance' - if I can put it that way, in the first 25 games, like all great propagandists, he wound up believing his own propaganda.

The truth however is that we are clearly short. We also need another DCM even if Flamini stays. Two if he goes and probably another striker as well.

The bill for that little lot could be anything from £25 to £35 million.

Can you honestly see Wenger acting on that ?

Not really, as I said before, he is stubborn. He'll get Vela involved into the first team and promote Nordtveit into our Carling Cup squad. To say the truth, we could spend 50 million and there's still be space for strengthening.

Sign fucking anyone who can score goals, Theo and Bendtner did hardly anything today, even though our overall team performance was very good, we DO need a striker and a winger. I don't want to see Nicklas Bendter turn into that frenchman who scored for middlesbrough the other day, but he hasn't hardly done anything except for score against sp*rs, equalise against villa and have the odd good performance. Needs to improve his game greatly. defoe even, could've signed him, anyone who can put the ball in the back of the net will do for us. COME ON YOU GUNNERS!

No Theo and Bendtner did fuck all :? Do me a favour. If you don't get the ball what are you supposed to do? If you keep getting 5 minutes action here and there what are you supposed to do? If your 6ft5 and you have dickheads playing nicey, nicey football accross the opposition 35 yards from goal instead of getting it on your head, what are you supposed to do?

I can't believe your criticising those two kids for that today.

I'm not blaming them, I was just saying that they didn't really do much.

IM STILL OPTIMISTIC!!! Ok today was bad, and am gutted about the result, but there is still 7 games to play. I don’t think we can win it but 2nd is not out of the question, and yes second will be am improvement on last 2 years. Yes our form needs to improve; yes we need to bring in new blood, but no I’m not going to be pessimistic. Look at the money the other 3 clubs have spent compared to us. Our squad is very young and can only get better, I think its harsh to have a go a our players when we should be getting behind them, especially hleb, there is another thread on how bad he is….utter shit he works his arse off and yes can be frustrating at times but has a go. No one can be amazing in every game and quite frankly our squad has over achieved this year, most were writing off our chances of getting in the top four including members of this forum, look where we are. Not happy with current form but am VERY OPTIMISTIC about the clubs future.

there is progress in the sence we have played better football in my opinion and for most of the year the team had better moral and came through with three points no matter what but it has gone off the boil since losing to utd.
the mentality is something that needs to be looked at, i know the team is young, i know they lack experience and maybe not pulling off the title is good for them to learn about going that extra mile to do what is necessary to get the result.
3rd is no positive to me considering last year we would have taken 3rd place if baptista had put away his pen at pompy.
after such a good start i can only be disapointed as many of you i am sure are.
i will only give up hope when it is mathmatically impossible to finish higher than 3rd. if we finish 3rd ill be disapointed, higher and im satisfied

Why not be optimistic?
We're in the quarter finals of the Champions League and there is still a long way to go in the Premiership.
Ofcourse today could not really have gone any worse, but it's not the end of the world because we're still very much involved in the two major competitions.

There doesn't have to be a scapegoat or some major change just because we lost a game.

Summer Shopping List:

To Buy

1 - Tall mobile striker.

2 - Goalscoring fast strong winger who can play on both wings.

3 - Tall strong centre back.

Use Djourou as defensive ball winning midfielder if Flamini is out.

To Sell

A no longer able to keep up Gilberto.

Mentalist Jens.
