The Guardian's "Top 100 Players in the World"

Post by Dan_85 »

Naturally, Messi is No. 1 but it's interesting to see how many entries our rivals have in this countdown;

Man Utd - 5 entries, RvP (7), Rooney (31), Vidic (64), Evra (78), Kagawa (94)
Chelsea - 8 entries, Cole (30), Mata (32), Oscar (37), Cech (44), Hazard (58), Ramires (61), Luiz (79), Terry (86)
City - 8 entries, Yaya Toure (9), Aguero (11), Silva (18), Kompany (23), Tevez (48), Hart (65), Balotelli (67), Nasri (93)
Spurs - 2 entries, Bale (40), Dembele (91)
Everton - 1 entry, Fellaini (60)
Liverpool - 1 entry, Suarez (21)

Bayern Munich - 10 entries, Schweinsteiger (19), Lahm (25), Ribery (28), Neuer (29), Muller (33), Kroos (53), Gomez (56), Robben (66), Mandzukic (77), Martinez (98)
Barcelona - 12 entries, Messi (1), Xavi (3), Iniesta (4), Busquets (14), Pique (24), Fabregas (36), Mascherano (39), Alves (43), Puyol (46), Alba (55), Villa (62), Pedro (72)
Real Madrid - 9 entries, Ronaldo (2), Casillas (12), Alonso (15), Ozil (17), Ramos (22), Benzema (35), Di Maria (47), Marcelo (51), Modric (80)
Borussia Dortmund - 4 entries, Reus (27), Goetze (34), Hummels (45), Lewandowski (70)

And what about Arsenal? - 1 entry, Cazorla (73)  :banghead:

Not bad considering we moved stadium to compete with Europe's elite eh? And don't forget that Liverpool, Everton, Dortmund, who all have more/higher placed players than us, all came close to administration in recent years lol. A pretty damning indictment of the current state of Arsenal...

I'm sorry but Wilshere, Podolski and Sagna should easily WALK into that list.

I'd actually forgotten that the likes of Kroos, Muller and Gomez played for Bayern  That is a terrifying line up for our L16 tie...

Aaaahhh.....how lovely that we used to have the highest ranked PL player on that list, and how lovely of us to give him to Manchester United so they can pull further away from us and regain the title

The season of goodwill to all men extends to the Summer months and January at Arsenal

Presumably Djourou was ranked 101.

Not a definitive list' as 89 says, Wilshere should be on there, so should Sagna and probably Arteta.

Yeah, I was surprised to see no Wilshire actually. Sagna should probably be on there, that's about it though i'd say. Podolski & Arteta? Not quite for me...

It's done on the year 2012 thats why they are not in it.Wilshire and Sagna were injured while Podolski was relegated at Koln and has been average with us

Its done on 2012 and yet Vidic has been injured for months during the year, and Rooney obviously made 31st owing to another series of stunning displays at Euro 2012 :banghead: :banghead:

Pretty shit list in some ways.....Balotelli? Kagawa? Really? Others I haven't even heard of to be honest!!

I wouldn't put any other Arsenal player in that 100, Wilshere doesn't deserve to be in there, not yet. The likes of Arteta certainly doesn't deserve to be in there - a decent footballer but not one of the best midfielders in the world, not by a long way!!

Always going to be plenty of names you disagree with but when Buffon is about 20th and is being kept out of the Italy team by an extremely average keeper then it says it all!

Buffon is by far the best keeper Italy has. Still.
But I don't like the list. Of course we'll never agree on everyone but some of them must be a joke for sure.
Forlan? WTF? Are they drunk? Nasri? Oh dear  Mayuka   There are more names but I risk a heart attack 8)
