in case you hadnt noticed he ended up on loan a birmingham and if my memory serves me right he was there when they played us in that glorious caring cup fianl debacle of 2010,after that he disappeared up his own arsehole only to end up back at the club he started his career at,think he was at stuttgart on loan too at some point.i liked Hleb although there never seemed to be much end product, kind of the opposite of walcott, lots of mazy runs with mind boggling close control only to fuck up the shot

He was not bad for us I think, that 07-08 team was fantastic, last time we were contenders for the title.

The team was the only one since we moved capable of winning something. The fact that Hleb contributed 2 goals in 31 league games (and only 7 in 89 in total) was a huge part of the reason we didn't win the league: when the strikers went through an inevitable lean spell then we needed an attacking midfielder who started almost every game to step up to the plate and grab the odd important goal, but he didn't.

There are more to being a good midfielder than just goals but Hleb lacked in other areas too, it's just his inability to score was the most detrimental. Pires was class for us for years and Ljungberg carried us over the line to the double in '02. Hleb was a very average part of a very good team.

Here's my opinion of Hleb

Hleb COULD have been Wenger's worst ever signing if it wasn't for Barcelona being mugs and paying over the odds for him. By over the odds I mean anything over £2.50. Thanks to Barca we managed to recoup our money on the crappy and innefectual midfielder. You see he believed his own hype. The first 2 years at Arsenal he was dreadful with his pass--pass--pass and no creativity, no shots no nothing. Just pass pass pass. Looking back at Arsenal highlights of when he was at the club, he was always responsible for allowing the opponents to get back after a counter attack because he was so slow on the ball. The only thing I can say positive about the guy is he didn't get injured that often in comparison to other Arsenal players. Wenger managed to make Hleb look world class in that 2007/08 season. Don't get me wrong he was still utter shite with his pass no further than 2 yards philosophy, but because we were winning matches with 60 odd percent possession Barca thought that this guy was 'skillfull'. Truth is everything that season went well because a certain young prodigy stepped up- Fabregas. Hleb was just a passenger who was made to look world class by Wengerball tactics.

Barca realized he was shit almost instantly. Hell they may even had known before hand. Perhaps they just spent 15m for the hell of it. He never got much first team football. When you cant even get in the Birmingham squad you know have fucked up. I think he moved back to his homeland club never to be seen again.

For me, Hleb was a player like Gervinho is nowadays: so incredibly annoying to watch.

I never forgot one moment from Hleb against PSV Eindhoven in the 2006-2007 second round of the CL. Being 1-0 up he made a completely useless foul near the corner flag (the PSV player had nowhere to go), PSV scored from the following free kick and we were knocked out.

To be honest I didn't think he was that bad, just not good enough for us.
