Surely its not unsettling at all to be talking to a player/agent and offering him a deal straight off rather than saying we're interested and who knows (if no actual contact has been made) and if contact has been made then why mention it in the press? I agree that he gets peppered with the same questions all the time. I've watched press conferences where he's been asked the same question a few times.

But why does he fucking answer them? He can refuse to speak on a subject without having to have the reverence Ferguson commands, or without the petulance of Mourinho or Dalglish.

Take the example of the lack of FA charge against Ferguson. What Wenger said was measured and conservative. But we all knew it would get completely misreported and blown out of proportion, and sure enough BBC lead with the story. Why didn't he just say that it was nothing to do with him or Arsenal?
