Arsene's Worst Signings

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Speaking of the best signings, Bobby Pires just posted this on twitter. Breaks my fucking heart to look at it considering what we've become since those glorious days

Stepanovs was mentioned in the 3rd post

As for Baptista... yeah, not awful as he was only on loan, but just imagine if we're actually been successful in beating Real Madrid to his signature the year before, and had actually paid big money for "the beast"   - Arsene dodged a bullet there.... although maybe the fact we wanted Baptista in the first place was a sign that Wenger's magic hat was slipping :(

For £11m The Klingon has got to be streets ahead of all the other candidates.

That article is simply lazy jornalistic dogshit.

Suker came at the end of his career on a one year deal and scored 8 goals in 22 appearances many of which were as a substitute.

He was a stop gap and done that job well.

Quite a few centre forwards would bite your hand off for those stats.

Gervinho for me

The worst player in an Arsenal shirt I have ever ever ever seen

Atrocious player absolutely appalling

Alas we will see him a lot more

Gervinho hands down, when you look at how much we paid for him,it would have been bad enough to be lumbered with him even if he'd come on a free,as for Suker he was world class, was coming to the end of his carreer and despite limited appearances still managed a few goals,a couple which were belters,no one here can say that we wouldnt take a player of his age/class right now,and wasnt he only 1m??like everbody said total shit journalism

No mention of Amaury Bischoff, who probably played slightly more than Park.

I think there are several differences though.

Didn't Bischoff arrive on a free? and even then, Wenger admitted it was a "gamble on talent" more than anything. Park on the other hand, actually came with a transfer free (and no doubt higher wages) and I have a horrible feeling that we even had to pay more money to Monaco once Park got out of doing his national service :?

Furthermore, whereas Bischoff was only a gamble, Park arrived under a weight of expectation as we were in real need of a striker. Van Persie was carrying the club and with only Chamakh as cover, a proper striker was essential... what we got was Park

Amazingly though, on the very same day as signing Park, we also spent around 7m euros (+decent wages) on a fat, shirt swapping Brazilian winger to play at fullback, so Park wasn't even the worst signing Wenger made that day, never mind over the last 16 years! - and those shite signings were only 3 weeks after we'd spent £11m on the amazingly shit Gervinho...

And, of course, the wonderful month of August 2011 wasn't done with shitting on us yet.... oh no, it was also the month we sold Nasri and Cesc!!!!

it beggars belief :(
