Good article. Thanks Hlebby
Thoroughly enjoyed reading that. Accurate and hard-hitting without being obsessive or maniacal.g88ner wrote:Good article. Thanks Hlebby
Agreed. There are a good few of us on here that have been saying this for years - that the problem is one of Arsene's own making, his ego is driving him to build this mythical superteam of unknowns that he has then supposedly developed into superstars. He is the one that refuses to better use that money on proven talent.northbank123 wrote:Exactly Herd - surely for ardent Wenger supporters their reasons for blindly standing behind the man are being reduced? Our big players are sick of playing for his team and leaving in droves, and the financial constraints he's working under are self-imposed.
Absolutely it is of his own making. For all their sins, the board have been consistent in their message over the years that there is money to spend and even Wenger at one point stated that if we wanted to buy a player for £30m we had the means to do so.DB10GOONER wrote:Agreed. The problem isn't one of lack of money to spend, it's the mis-spending of the available money on huge wages for kids, unproven talent and dross. He won't spend big to bring in proven talent for let's say 2 or 3 seasons to push the team forward (and maybe encourage other big names to sign) but he will piss away the same amount of money over 6 or 7 seasons by paying huge wages to dross that he has "discovered", with no benefit to the team.
For all Wenger's talk of financial prudence, in reality he has been financially inept. We have still spent a fortune, but unlike other big spenders of the last few years, we've spent big with zero return where it matters; trophies.
Modern Arsenal is a vanity project for a rich, arrogant old man with a gigantic ego.
Have to agree with all of that. It's why I don't get upset anymore about a lack of transfer activity anymore. I don't trust the man to buy what is needed because frankly I don't think that his coaching methods would help at all even if he did.DB10GOONER wrote:Agreed.
