As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Cockerill's chin wrote:I just don't get the righteous indignation towards Theo asking for 90-100k. He's not holding the club to ransom he is asking for the going rate. Why are we outraged at 90k per week when the challenging clubs are paying 200-250k. How small have we become and why does it bother us? What do you guys want to save the 15k per week for? Bonus for the manager?
Wenger defended his socialist experiment this week and that re-enforces the notion that he is incapable of learning from mistakes and can only do more damage to this club. I am sure part of the inertia of agreeing to 90k for Theo is that it distances Walcott from several players in the squad. This socialism has no place in football. The industry has been run as meritocracy for generations but we have a fool from France who dismisses how footballers are rewarded elsewhere and refuses to see the harm of paying fringe squad players 60k per week. Not only does this policy render us incapable of competing for 100-150k per week salaries it also demotivates the squad and makes players like B52, Squid, Denilson, Diaby, Chamakh and others impossible to move on. This socialist policy has singlehandedly done more harm to Arsenal's chances of competing than anything else. For Wenger to defend it this week was incredibly frustrating. He isn't a self-harmer, he is in his personal heaven and this is his playground. It is Arsenal he is harming.
Theo's position is strengthened by Gazidis' negligence in allowing contracts to run down. I blame Gazidis and Wenger for this not Walcott. One poster on this thread said it is Law and not Gazidis who negotiates contracts but it is the latter who is reported as an ever present in negotiations. If Fox handles commercial and Law player contracts then the banner asking what the f**k Gazidis does seems valid.
When the discussion is reduced to one liners and fuelled by nothing but a desire to ridicule Walcott I think it has probably come to an end. If you hate him when he has delivered more end product than any other player this season then it is difficult to reason with a blinkered man.

Podolski is believed to be on 90k per week so this deal for wally, if true, would make him the highest paid player at the club which is shameful imo. At various times I have absolutely ridiculed him on here and I make no apologies for that but I fail to see where the ridicule is in my previous post As it goes I was one of those that backed the idea of paying him 80k per week with add on's to raise it to 100k per week if he reached certain targets so I have not say that he should be fcuked out the door but that he should earn his corn over more than a couple of months to justify those demands.....I still stand by that
I wouldnt complain if we paid Cesc or RVP £200k a week as they are proven world class players but i do object to paying Feo £100k.Feo is an incosistent player good v Reading and Newcastle shit v Southampton and Swansea.Thats what you are going to get from him nothing will change.Yes he has been better this season but be honest would that really have been hard after the last 6 seasons

And what makes it more ridiculous is that we've had to endure this endless, tedious saga played out in the media on an almost daily basis since the summer, completely overshadowing our season, and the contract will probably be pretty much what Thei wanted all along!
This should have been sorted over the summer. Shambolic. And when you consider that it's seamlessly followed on from the RvP saga, which itself seamlessly followed on from the Nasri/Cesc saga, which itself seamlessly followed on from the Adebayor saga.... - surely we're running out of *word censored* who want to leave aren't we? - once this Theo bullshit is put to bed, do you think we can FINALLY concentrate on FOOTBALL for a change?

Well quite. is there any other PL team that has to endure this shit every single season without fail. We know Sagna is next out but no doubt we'll have to endure months of how he loves the club, how the Self Harmer expects him to stay before watching him depart for Inter. Honestly Gazidis is presiding over a circus - there isn't a fucking year that passes without having to suffer this shite
If this 18month deal is true then I think it just shows that this is all about money. He'll be off in the summer. This deal is just so that Theo can get paid an obscene amount of cash before he moves on.

They are not saying it is an 18 month deal - what they are saying is that wally will only agree to a 3 year deal which would mean that in 18 months time we would be back trying to negotiate another deal so that we wont find ourselves in the same shit state that we currently find ourselves Personally I am expecting wally to sign a new mega deal and halfway through the deal the club will realise that they have another young player who never will fulfill his potential but will be unable to shift him due to his excessive wages
A three and a half year deal sounds ideal for any player of his age.
Long enough to give the player and club some security.
Not so long that it ties up an under performing player on high wages for years on end.
But long enough so that if the player performs well, there is a cushion before anything is renegotiated.
Club and player sit down to discuss new contract with two years left on the deal.
If nothing has been agreed inside six months, you then sell the player with 18 months left on his contact, which should get a decent transfer fee.
Again, what Walcott might earn as an individual is only relevant in part.
It is the total wage spend that concerns me far more than any single player earning high wages; the mediocre players on long term deals at higher than they need to be on wages.
He really looked the 100k a week player today Even though we were down to 10 men he was absolute dogshit- in fact he couldnt possibly have been because he was anonymous for most of the game.
Any team with an organised defence he does not perform against. I am 100% certain we could get a player on £100k a week who would produce on a regular basis. People may say its the going rate but I would say its the going rate for a top level striker- Wally is not one of them. At best he is a decent PL striker and they get paid around £60k a week as the going rate.
He was simply awful tonight. Doesn't change the fact that we should get him signed up because if were agreeing new contracts on the back of today's performance we'd be left with a squad of 3 players......but he was fucking hopeless. His reading of their offside trap was about as handy as Adebayor's
