As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I genuinely can't understand why he is given such an easy ride. Even when he got a few 'Crisis' headlines they soon disppeared once we'd scraped a win against some overreaching Championship side.
I can't think the manager of any other major club would be shown so much patience. No trophies for eight years! Whatever you think of him, any manager of a 'top' club would be attracting serious criticism.
As much as ex-players can often look like twats with an axe to grind when they start to complain, I think we need more of them to have a go at AW and for some momentum to build up in the media before the masses will start to want a change.
The fat c**t that writes for the express suggested this morning that wenger has "rode out the storm" with those impatient fans Maybe it is our (the fans) fault.......he is only given any stick when results are particularly bad when the reality is that we are a poor poor side that has totally lost it's way and that is down to the manager 100% so he should be let know at every game that he is being held responsible for our failures

3 and a half sides of the ground yesterday then
Yep, you know things have gone to shit when one of the your biggest rivals are ridiculing us with chants for Wenger to stay
And it's true. If I was a Sp*rs or chav fan, I'd be wanting Wenger to sign a 10 year extension, much in the same way I would have loved Christian Gross to have stayed forever at Sp*rs and Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool. We've gone stale, and it's there for everyone to see. It's just not working anymore.
On the plus side, if Wenger does sign a new contract, we're all going to have a cracking BBQ over at SteveO's house

Hope he has a big garden cos a lot of lads will be turning up for the free food
is it him not spending..or the board not letting him?
Until we know that for sure we cannot make an informed decision.
Having said that, even with limited funds he has made some right proper shite signings over the last few years. He does also seem to be tactically inept at times. (most of the time this season).
I think that we could do with freshening things up but I think we do owe it to him to do it in a way that doesn't belittle the man. We should have more class than that and given what he has done for us in the past he deserves a bit better than that. A move upstairs would suit me and let a new man take the reigns.
Or just bring back David Dien and re-ignite Wenger's flame!

I may be in the minority when we talk about Dein for me his ship has sailed he made good money out of his shares & his son hasn't exactly done badly out of helping to move on some of our better players. He has been away from the game for a while & there is no chance of the club under this regime taking him back.
The manager needs to go that i have no doubt about who of our existing players has improved this year?Tactically he has been exposed time & again where he had world class players to fall back on he now has some still good players but a very very average squad. The best paid man at the club who has total control with it comes accoutability he has had more than enough time to turn it round imo.

Spuddy can we ever move on properly from this regime if wenger is granted a seat "upstairs" ? No new manager would want wenger standing over him and undermining him every step of the way.
Time for a clean break methinks

Totally agree. We need a clean break from all things Wenger when he eventually goes and a new manager should have total freedom to do things his way.
Exactly - if he goes presumably it will be because his dictatorial influence and philosophy isn't working and hasn't done for a long time. Why put him in a position where he will still have a huge scope of influence and try and impose the same philosophy on the club? Aside from the spectre of him still hanging round above the new manager.
Either he's the best man for the job or he needs to go because his approach isn't working. No middle ground.

Thing is flash, Wenger was given the same freedom by the board and look at the state we're in....so I would ere on the side of caution...let the new manager coach / manage the team - but all other things transfers etc etc etc should be left to those who know what they are doing...I think the word 'Delegate' comes to mind...and that is something wenker cannot do....he's so paranoid of someone usurping him and his authority.

Really? The man has lied to and treated the fans with the utmost contempt for the past 7 years. He has presided over the sale of our best players culminating in RVP's move to his one time nemesis.
Wenger deserves nothing, he has embarrassed himself, the club and the fans with his moronic pitch side antics and post match comments, all respect for him has long since been lost.
Fuck him!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He should not be making a move upstairs at all. Why do I keep hearing this rubbish from people. No, he should not be belittled, but he is currently doing a good job of this himself. Why the bloody hell should he move upstairs and cast a shadow over a new manager.
I am aware the board is hopeless but it is Wenger who picks the team and sends them out their with no game plan, NOT Denver Stan! The buck stops with him first and foremost.
Sad thing is there are 7m reasons why he won't be sacked Gazidis interviewed for his job by OGL imagine that whatever you all do for a living you hire your own boss!
The owner loves OGL he compares him to Billy Beane in the film Moneyball a baseball manager that won diddly squat but was able to trade players (no transfer system in USA sport) for cheaper options & kept the team reasonably competitive.
Oh well at least with Gazidis we have an executive that worked in the MLS & was able to help negotiate contract extensions for the likes of Cobi Jones & Alexi Lalas back in the day comical set up!
