Cheers for the info mate. Where's good and cheap to drink near the station, and is it easy to get from the station to the ground?Mellor 3 ward 4 wrote: Good evening Gooners, Brighton fan here.
First of all good luck on Sunday.
Looking forward to next Saturday, I see you've sold out your (4000) allocation and we've sold out too, so full house, 3pm on a Saturday on the coast, what more could you ask for. (Our ground isn't complele and finished yet, it will end up as 30,750 but two corners have yet to have the seats put in, so should be about 27,000 next week.)
Loads of pubs around Brighton station, pretty much all away friendly with one or two exceptions,if you want real ale The Evening Star near the station is superb. shame the trains have got Major problems, normally from Victoria it's an hour, but next Satirday count on double that.
If you are driving, there is no parking anywhere near the stadium, but there are three park and rides, cost included in your match ticket (£28.00, bargain!) also if you are coming by train, only buy a ticket to either Hayward Heath, Or Shoreham. Again, cost of the local transport is included in your ticket price.
On the pItch, I just hope you don't score too early and spoil what will be a great atmosphere. One of my best friends is a massive Gooner, STH at Highbury/Emirates and I know he enjoys away games much more than home games.
I was the in 79 when you lot won 4 0 on our first game in the First Division,oh and Brady has a special place for us too after he didn't jump shp in our hour of need. Rumour has it he will be guest of honour next Saturday. I hope so.

Yes. Very much so although he isn't feeling the love with our new chairman and board. He was part of the furniture when we were at Withdean and it was all a bit amateurish (just my opinion), the way the club was run but since the move and Tony Bloom taking over he's outside and looking in.Poldi wrote:@bha_fan

As long as you all promise to keep the happy vibe I'll name a few pubs that are 5 or 10 minutes away from the station and not really deemed football pubs and you won't get grief.SWLGooner wrote:Cheers for the info mate. The Caxton Arms - 2 mins away but hidden in a little side-street.
The Eddy - 3 mins away and up a hill
Evening Star - 1 min away
West Hill pub - 2 mins from the station and run by a very nice Swindon fan who knows his music.
3 Jolly Butchers - 3 mins away
Basketmakers - one for the real ale fans. It's a Brighton pub but it's an institution 5 mins away
The Eagle - opposite the Basketmakers
Fountainhead - 5 mins away in the North Laine (the bohemian hippy area)
The North Laine - newly opened, massive and brew their own real ale. Just down from the Basketmakers
Heart in Hand 5 mins away - tiny little pub with the best jukebox in town. All old school. Johnny Cash, Junior Murvin etc
Waggon and Horses 5 or 10 min walk and right in the heart of things
Mash Tun opposite Waggon and Horses
Mrs Fitzherberts - next to Mash Tun
Great Eastern - straight down from the station 5 mins away
George Pub - opp. Great Eastern
Earth and Stars - organic beer pub. 2 mins away
The Pond - 2 mins away - full of postmen
The Office - 5 mins away
William IV - old school pub that doesn't do trendy. 5 mins away
Dorset - full of beautiful people 5 mins away opp Heart in Hand
White Rabbit - 5 mins away. full of hipsters
Hobgoblin - 5 or 10 mins away. Had a refit recently
Sussex Yeoman 1 min away
Prince Albert 1 min away and has Banksy's paintings of George Best and the kissing policemen on the wall
Quadrant 5 mins away
These are just a few of the pubs that are around the centre of town, there's loads more but if you try some of the obvious ones near the station then it might be home fans only:
Battle of Trafalgar
Wellington
Queens Head
Royal Sovereign
Railway Bell
Grand Central
Nelson (lovely old pub - is Albion but usually away friendly)
Sometimes the police make the Bell or Grand Central away only and the others might have a door policy.
They all do excellent pub grub too, by and large and veggies are well catered for. West Street is probably to be avoided unless Trevorspoons/Yates etc is your thing.
If you choose to use the Park and Ride at the racecourse then you'll be just above Hanover and there is almost a pub on every street corner. Too many to name but all have their own unique feel to them:
http://www.viewbrighton.co.uk/pubsandba ... a-338.html
Hanover pubs are quiet on a Saturday lunchtime compared to the others and you might want to cget a taxi to Hanover as it's about 20 minutes away and up a v steep hill.
There's loads of pubs I've missed too especially the south side of North Street around the Lanes area, there's some cracking pubs there if you're hanging around in the evening (Black Lion, Cricketers, Fish Bowl, The Globe, Hop Poles, Victory, Bath Arms, Druids Head etc etc etc). We're spoilt for pubs here.
I can't comment about clubs as I'm now a bit past all that so your best bet is to pick up the flyers and free magazines in the pubs. A good tip for the older crowd is the Funky Fish Club just down from Audio on the seafront. Funk, Northern Soul, Motown - no dress code, pub prices, it looks like a school hall and popular with hen parties. Just be a bit smart if there's a group of lads trying to get in. A lot of the pubs stay open late with DJs for free so you don't need to go clubbing to chat with the ladies.
St James Street and around is the gay area although everywhere is gay-friendly. We're pretty tolerant as it goes (although West Street is where all the commercial nightclubs are with the kind of pubs and clientele you'll find in any high street anywhere in Britain. The good news is that the West Street crowd almost exclusively stay on that strip.)
Please take all the above with a pinch of salt as I have no idea what the police or landlords are planning for next week - but I am pretty sure that it won't be a bad experience. That only happens when we play Crystal Palace. We hate them, they hate us - it's a nasty rivalry.
Hope you have a good time whatever the result.
Re: Brighton Away Tix travel pubs etc
Also - just down from the Waggon and Horses and opposite the library are a couple of cocktail bars if you just have to have a lucky Mojito before the match.

you lucky lucky bastards.
I love Brighton, i used to date a an air stewardess who lived on 5th avenue in Hove. there are thousands of them there. its totty central.
always followed Brighton since them - they've had their bad days, good to see them on the up - along with my second team Brentford.
i hope both sets of fans have a great day out, and as i have a soft spot for the seagulls, i hope for a 2-2 or 3-3 draw, and we beat them back at the bowl as they'll get half our gate

Re: Brighton Away Tix travel pubs etc
if you walk straight down the hill there's plenty of cheap bars, one opposite oceana does jager grenades for £2.50 (last time I was down there about 4 months ago that's how much they were, they were £2 a year ago!)SWLGooner wrote: Cheers for the info mate. i'm only down for the day so plan to get some food, have a few beers in the bars down the hill and then jump on the 25 bus from the clock tower i'm led to believe this goes to the ground?
Mellor/Ward is train travel included with the ticket? thought it was just buses??

No, train travel is included too (If you are coming down from London by train, only buy a return to Haywards Heath, it's included from there. (Or Lewes if you are going via Lewes, or Shoreham if you are coming from the West)
The train is much quicker than busses from around the station. It takes about 10 minutes max, and takes you right to the stadium.
I wouldn't leave it too late to get on one from Brighton station though. They get very full from 2pm onwards.
Enjoy your trip.

Brilliant, thanks mate. We'll probably get an escort from the station to a pub anyway, but we're on an early train so hopefully dodge that.
