As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

we weren't relegated in the last 7 years. we never finished midtable or worse (actually no worse than 4th, which is respectable by all means). we went to a CL final and two cup finals. we went to the last 16 of th CL in every one of those seasons. i could go on.
so it's not complete catastrophe, it is just underachieving imo.
the point is, we have the resources and the means to challenge for silverware again. what is unnaceptable is that we could be there, but for some reason we are overly conservative spending money, all those teams between 2006-2013 only needed 2-3 class players to be fighting with man usa and chelsea for silverware. how can the arsene who was so brilliant before turn into this blind, arrogant, self-important bloke i will never understand.
Cos he's french , wonder if his ancestors designed the maginot line and then sat back and arrogantly thought....."what a supperb defence (Arsene?).....no fuckers getting past this"
Sorry DB, I can't do ze accents like you
Stick to the jokes, mate. Leave the accents to us experts.

I can take missing out on any of the above if I feel we are giving ourselves the best possible chance on the pitch with the resources we have available.

Sorry to be the one to tell you DB, but those voices you hear in your head - in the many different dialects - that's Dialects - NOT Daleks!! - sound all the same when you try to actually speak them....what was it McDowell said????... ...hmmmm...Aaaah! yes, No matter what he says he sounds like a drunken Oirish Fella sucking on a Fishermans friend.
dan summed it up. mismanagement is the main problem, and this mismanagement allows the manager and the board to get off with zero accountability.
wenger's failings can be masked by the board's failure to sign players to long term deals so we lose them, and failure to negotiate properly when signing players
the board's failings can be masked by wenger's descent into the abject management of the team on the pitch today
if someone was made ACCOUNTABLE for all the problems we currently have i don't think there would be so much anger and division among fans
Echoing what has already been said but Dan has it spot on.
On the pitch IMO the real failure is that we aren't seen as "competition" anymore. United fans used to look at us and hate playing us because they knew they'd usually be in for a tough game, especially at Arsenal. Nowadays they see our fixture and expect 3 points. In cup competitions teams look at us and think "we've got a good chance against them", teams no longer fear us like they used too. But all of this goes back to what Dan said and it starts off the pitch.
I see it as a failure that we, the Arsenal fans, are not sending a loud enough message to the club, manager and the players that we're not fucking happy with the same continued shit season upon season.
Something has got to change and it's up to us, the fans to do this. There's far too many that are too fucking nice or content to sit on their hands!!!!

Spot on. Not even giving it a go and getting in a manager to sort out the mess is inexcusable.
Agreed. The problem is everything we are doing is wrong. We've prided ourselves on being a well run club but truth is it has been shockingly poor.
The wage bill is atrocious. God knows what will happen when we drop out of CL footy. Weldone Wenger and your prudence.
The scouts seem clueless. Time and time again we hear the phrase 'looking for top quality' only to sign Gervinho and Giroud whilst missing out on Mich and Demba Ba.
The physios have been despised by the whole fanbase for a while now. Hell even their video on Arsenal.com addressed it.
The coaches, including wenger, have to take huge blame. We have made the same defensive errors for atleast 9 years now. Nothing ever gets fixed. The goal keepers have also not progressed.

This x 1 million
I can accept us not winning (there is only 4, not 5, cups after all) but what I cannot accept is the defeatist non challenging attitude running through our club Gone are the days where our club had pride running through every individual within it and knowledge that if we were to lose then the opposition would have to work their bollox off to beat us. Failure is continually selling your best players (especially to your rivals) as it is the working practice of a small mid table club
The ultimate failure is the continued stewardship of wenker and the rest of the c**ts on the board - every day that goes by with them in charge only twists the knife the bit more in my heart
I have to agree with that remark, but I now think that the gic actually lowered his sights, and that the virtual trophy is all that matters long term now. If he actually cared about underperformig and underachieving, year in and year out, then he should hand over 50% of his ill gotten gains. i.e his salary.
For me it's really a case of the lack of pride that hurts. I could take it if we were just shit, it really would be so much easier to stomach. Of course I want us to be at the top and winning things, and I've been very lucky that as a kid I had a ST the year we won the double in 97/98. But it's not the being shit that's the worst thing.
It's the constant lies, the extortionate prices, the arrogant sense of entitlement that our manager and too many of our players have exhuded game on game, year on year. It's increasingly difficult to identify with the club that has been a huge part of my life since before I can remember. To be honest it's only coming on here and having a laugh and joke with other fans about the state of the club that's stopping me from drifting away.
I may not have been old enough to remember the end of the Graham era but having read autobiographies of several players that were round during them (Adams, Wright, Merson x2, Seaman, probably a few others) the one thing that I can take from that was the overwhelming sense of professionalism and pride to wear the shirt, even if the football was dire. How many of our players post-Highbury will speak of the pride representing Arsenal brought? Nasri? Denilson? Bendtner? The four thousand other players who've passed through the club and didn't give a fuck?
